Every user should read this. And if you're looking for a blast from the past, check out the archived news posts.

/q/ is now open for business, and has already sparked a number of great discussions and changes to the site. Here's one on why 4chan doesn't accept donations and what you can do to support the site.

Banners are great. Banners are fun. My only issue is that they're not board-specific. So the vast majority of banners I see are anime and I don't visit any of the anime boards. That's not very fun. This isn't an anime issue though. It isn't really an issue at all. It's just I think it would be more fun if the banners were board-specific. So cartoon/comic banners in /co/. Anime/manga in /a/. Sports in /sp/. Etc. Really, all you'd have to do is make a sticky similar to >>>/co/39838736 on every board requesting submissions and then watch as all the content pours in. And yes, I know I'm overly trivialising it. In reality it would be a very long and tedious task for moot and co. to implement it. But that's the only issue I see with, it's very time-consuming. I think it would be worth it though. And you could always do it slowly over many months, one board at a time. (Or even ask for volunteers to compile and organise the banner submissions or something)

So can we expect board-specific banners? Is that somewhere on the To-Do list? I understand it would be nowhere near the top but still.

But 4chan was originally built around scraps of internet culture and anime crap. So the wide spread of anime-related banners makes sense to the majority of the boards' users.
>>
>>101738
Like I said, not an anime issue. That was merely an example. The thread is about wanting to see relevant/relatable (therefore more enjoyable) banners, instead of a random assortment.
>>
>>101756
But anime is always relevant on 4chan.
>>
4chan has banners mostly of /a/ and /b/'s early days (/b/ was a very partial to anime years ago). But it still has a lot of board related banners, but not board specific (there's the hulk, I... banner, another one for co, another with a mexican saying bueno (more co?) and several non board spefic (and not anime).

It just need to filter banners for each boards, but there's some diversity with banners already.
>>
>>101786
>but there's some diversity with banners already
Yeah I know, but like you said they need to filter them out. And I'm sure most boards would need new banner submissions to bulk up their load. /co/ already has a few but some of the smaller boards probably don't have any in circulation.
>>
>>101729
I like seeing the other board's banners, even if I see mine the most. They're kinda cool.
>>
>>101889
Well they don't need to be completely separate. Maybe just tweak it so that board-relevant banners are shown for the vast majority of the time with a random one thrown in every now and then.
>>
>>101911
I guess that would be fine, not sure if it's the staff's priority with all the other stuff going on now, though.
>>
>>101924
Yeah, I'm not fooling myself in to thinking it's an important feature at the moment. But it's still nice to discuss it. I'm very interested to hear moot's standpoint on it too.
>>
>>101729

You shouldn't see only banners for a specific board when you're on that board, that would cut back on the fun of chuckling at random banners you don't quite understand and knowing that users of other boards are doing the same to the banners from the boards you frequent.

I know /co/ has several banners (dancing otter, Hal Jordan getting hit by the bird, a few more) and even /tg/ has at least one (MC Phylactery and the paladin having a rap-off).
>>
>>101964
There's nothing to chuckle at for me. They are mostly just regular screenshots from anime with no twists or jokes. There are others ones that are nice to look at but they seem to take up a very small portion of the banner's rotation (just like the /co/ banners we have)

Would >>101911 be a fair compromise?
>>
I sent moot a bunch back when we got the new ones. Some /tg/ ones were submitted by someonenotme after a thread there, and I submitted some /an/ ones and a /ck/ one.

Whether or not he ever saw the email I don't know, but not one banner made it onto the site. The banners are currently like 75% /a/, which is fine for the japanesey boards...

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v115/k3lit0/4chan/

Here are the /an/ and /ck/ ones... I'll try to find the /tg/ ones but I don't think I kept them after the thread was over.
>>
>>101729
We won't add board specific banners any time soon, but I will try to add other banners to the rotation to help even it out.
>>
IIT:Liberals and normalfags being afraid what their parents and friend will think if their see them browsing a site with such banners.

Naruto:the CLAPPING ADVENTURE is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

Naruto:the CLAPPING ADVENTURE is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto:the CLAPPING ADVENTURE threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

/a/ poster here, new banners sound fun.

>>102074
And they wouldn't be afraid of people seeing J-List ads, or 4chan itself? I think you're wrong there.
>>
Shouldn't the banners be representative of the site's overall content?

The rotation could use a few more, sure, but the current pool doesn't seem too bad for a site with a link to 2chan on every page.
>>
>>102069
It's a good idea.

Awaiting the day they are added.
>>
>>102079
>/a/ poster here, new banners sound fun.

I could be misinterpreting your enthusiasm but its pretty unlikely that /a/ will get new banners soon because that's the board with the most currently.

If you were enthused for other boards getting banners, then I apologize, by all means continue to be enthusiastic.
>>
>>102087
Yeah, I recognize quite a bit of the anime banners, I always like seeing another board's content. Especially since, as you said, /a/ has a lot of banners. Some of them are /jp/'s though.
>>
>>102069
Personally, I'd like to see some new banners that maybe represent some of the lesser used boards. It would be nice to see. /a/ has about 30 billion, so maybe /lit/ or /mu/ or even /sci/ or /o/ could get some love
>>
>>102069
>We won't add board specific banners any time soon
Because of the workload and general unimportance of it or because you are inherently opposed to the concept?

>but I will try to add other banners to the rotation to help even it out.
Thank you very much.

I must say, I do enjoy this line of communication between us and the staff that /q/ has created.
>>
>>102092
Now i do want Ayn Rand banner. Also /mu/ has 2 banners i think and /sci/ has all the beta banners devoted to them.
>>
>>102089
I think /co/ got a couple of their banners through also.
>>
>>102099
>Beta banners
Those are clearly /a/.
>>
>>102099
>/lit/ banner
>ayn rand
It'll be fun to see literally everyone from /lit/ coming here to complain about that banner.
>>
>>102022
Would be great if he added in the /an/ ones. Those are lovely

Atlas Shrugged is a gateway book of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and OBJECTIVISM. The normal /lit/erate can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The douchebag characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the money, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole "DONT THREAD ON ME" faggotry and everything about the Randverse fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

Aynd Rand is basically THE writer to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /lit/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every /lit/erate to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Atlas Srugged threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

I think this will do well. Also Rand is more of >>>/pol? thing.
>>
>>102124
>Aynd Rand is basically THE writer to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /lit/

>Ayn Rand anime

Fund it.

just kidding

Not really
>>
>>102137
It will just be full of rape fantasies and an End of Evangelion type of end.
>>
>>102183
Anno x Rand otp
>>
How has staff accepted banner submissions in the past? Is it e-mail or a sticky?
>>
>>102437
The current banners all came from a sticky a couple of months ago or so.

I like the idea of board specific banners. If it can be done, it would be nifty.
>>
>>102104
Ayn Rand is gateway literature of the worst kind.
>>
>>101911
As a guy who is really into animu, I still approve of this.

Although there is some part of me that worries if we reduce the number of anime-related banners the extremist anti-Japanese/anti-weeaboo people will see it as a victory.
>>
>>102437
When the recent batch got added, after years of campaigning, moot told us to email him. He got spammed with fucktons of email. A while later, after more asking, he told us to gather them in a zip instead of sending hundreds of emails. Then we hurriedly sent him a zip with hundreds of banners with little to no quality control. After more time and begging, he finally made a sticky asking for a link to a zip of the banners. Since nobody really knew what to expect, we didn't have a complete set with the quality controlled ones ready, and everyone gave him the original zip plus a bunch of new ones. He added those and there was much rejoicing.

Also, a list of banners: http://integriti.net/banners.php

Jesus Christ, that's even more anime than I thought. The next submission sticky will have to be strictly "no anime" just to even it all out.

...Those are all ancient banners, no new stuff.
I don't really get why people are opposed to seeing "anime-related" banners on other boards. Weeaboo roots, man.
>>
>>102566
The simple answer would be that despite 4chan's origins a very large chunk of the userbase do not watch anime. And it's not a problem with seeing anime-related banners in general, the issue is that the vast majority of them are anime-related. There is no diversity. It's completely disproportionate.
>>
>>102642
>HURR IT LOOKS LIKE ANIME
>TOO MANY ANNIE MAYS WHERE ARE OUR EPIC MEEMS?!?
Suck it up, a large chunk of 4chan is made up of /b/, does that mean we have to pander to /b/tard now?
>>
>>102649
>/b/tard
/b/tards
>>
Both board-specific banners and the global rotation banners are good ideas.

We need more /v/ related banners.
>>
There is more anime related banners because this is an anime website. You other boards are ruining this place and now you demand more banners. It's quite rude.

>/a/ still complaining

>>102092
I don't see how a /sp/ or /fit/ banner would work. Lel/Lylbron and Oats?
