Because the more disease there is to diagnose and hand out drugs for, the more psychiatrists (read, professional bullshitters) and their associated med companies can line their pockets.

There are no medications you can give to mitigate autism, unlike ADHD. There is therapy that they recommend people give their children, but that's not required and has poor results.

I personally just think it gives shrinks an easy way to explain bad behavior. Same with ADHD.

I wouldn't say it's a good thing, but it's a different approach on things, which can be worth noting.

To be blunt, autistics just think differently.

That said, it's not something to raise a flag over and celebrate. You are socially retarded, become stigmatized by your peers, and just feel alone. I have an extremely light version of ass burgers, and it caused a lot of issues.

I sucked at picking up social cues, I didn't get why I would piss people off with certain actions, and I would ramble for way too long on subjects people are disinterested in.

As someone earlier said, the doctors just treat the symptoms at best though. As a whole, it's not a good thing, and it should be kept in check.

I suspect most of the movement that "autism is a good thing" is just a mixture of tumblr faggots with too much free time, and mothers of aspies trying to justify their situation.
