Gallup's poll showed a 91% support for background checks and a 65% support for the bill that failed, despite all the lies surrounding it.

It's actually funny that the NRA thinks it can kill every bill with its money. The bill that failed was as mild as it gets, it was only about background checks and it even specifically forbid the creation of a gun registry, even though the NRA lied and claimed the bill would create one.
The next bill will not be that good.

>>
The concept is fundamentally flawed for many reasons

1. Right to bear arms, at least in this country, is indeed a natural right.

2. Drug tests would do nothing to stop spree killers, who are almost never intoxicated and always act upon their own volition.

3. "Welfare", contrary to what people may believe, is not beneficial to the society, and is a waste of tax dollars. Tax dollars should do things that actually benefit the social welfare, like repair roads/infrastructure, supply medical treatment, pay for schools, etc etc. Giving someone a check every month because they don't work is counter-productive to the advancement of a society. The state itself is not responsible for you getting a job, or supplying you with the income you need to survive. That's your responsibility.

>>14877864
>insuring your weapon

Against what exactly? Negligent Discharges? I would say that's nothing you need insurance for, at least on your gun, since the gun is a piece of metal that can't act on its own. That's the kind of shit you need personal medical insurance for, so you aren't paying out the ass for your own dumbass mistakes.

Jesus, not this argument again. The constitution is intentionally vague on what types of arms a civilian can have. The intention was to keep it pretty unrestricted so they could have comparable arms to the military, i.e. where we are today.

Now, save us all a lot of trouble and define "assault weapon- it has no concrete meaning as it was a term made up by politicians to describe guns with scary black furniture.

Can you point to the part of the Constitution that specifically enumerates the power to establish a gun registry?

If not, it is a power reserved to the states.

Whether or not it is an infringement of the 2nd Amendment to establish state registries I will abstain on. I should note that the 2nd Amendment is specifically reserved to the People (The right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms...) and is not to be infringed by a state either.

Arms are all military armaments.

Yes, they are protected.

That's right, a nuclear weapon is more constitutionally protected than a musket is now. Cry more.

>b-but muh assault weapons they never could have imagined them

Yes they could, as their predecessors were already being invented.

>b-but da government should be the only one with guns because muh feelings

yes, I know you love the very definition of tyranny.

would OP be willing to have a $10 background check every time they received welfare, food stamps or unemployment?

>>14879138
you have the right to buy things you want with money earned

you don't have a right to welfare you fucking nigger scumbag
>>
OP misses the point of the entire argument he's trying to confront.

The reason there's a call to drug test welfare recipients is because a positive drug test >IMPLIES that they actually have money but are choosing to spend it on drugs rather than food/shelter/basic needs. Thus, they don't actually need additional tax-payer funding (just a new set of priorities). All things considered, it's just practical to verify that the man asking you for food money while he gets back on his feet actually intends to get back on his feet.

Drug testing gun owners? I don't get it. I'm sure it makes you feel safer, but it's an arbitrary regulation. If we're going down that road, why not drug test everyone who wants to own a car?
>>
>>14879138
No you don't. A beggar get his money from other, the day those people decide not to give him money he'll starve. By those standard, What is your is mine, but what mine is mine scenario would come up. Forcing others to help your lazy ass isn't a right nor will it be.

The right to own, craft your own or trade a spear goes back to the beginning of humanity. No government grants this right, only respects it. Ours has to respect it because we attacked and beat the last government that tried to take it away.
