The Postmodern Romantic Period was a period of great unrest, as the superpowers-at-the-time, USA, Russia and many European nations, waged wars on an almost continuous basis against countries that had nothing in common except for the fact that they were inhabited by brown people. Granted, the beginning of the Postmodern Romantic Period is taken to be the Vietnam War, where yellow people were attacked, however this is the last time people other than brown were attacked in a major conflict and as such is taken to be the end of the Pre-Modern Period (1900 - 1960). Overall, it was a period of great societal change, as those in power finally checked their privilege.

The Postmodern Romantic Period was an era dominated by passionate egalitarianism. Widespread social experimentation was performed under dubious pseudo-scientific justifications. Psychology, a new proto-science of the time, was used as a tool for implementing sociological agendas, with much of the populace unbeknownst of the faculty's limitations. New attitudes generated by revisionist history spawned social movements able to gain widespread support with emotional appeals. Disappointment at the inability of these Presidents to implement the liberal agendas they were elected under led to general distrust in the movement at large.

Advances in technology especially neuroscience and brain scanning enabled the rise of a perfected form of psychology and more accurate descriptions of the reasons of social inequality--a moral hallmark for the Romantic Period's Existence. As scientific reasoning again supplanted emotionality in this forum, the population quickly rejected dubious claims of impassioned personalities. The New Enlightenment quickly spawned.

In 1960, it hadn't even begun. The people's champion, Ronaldo Paulson tried to tell them about it but they didn't listen. The state grew and grew, then after numerous economic crashes which he predicted, in the year 2013 and young man named Edward Snow, so named because he was a bastard (some conspiracists, believe he may have been Paulson's bastard son with lady liberty), tried to warn them about the PRISM program and the surveillance state and how dangerous it was.

Then in 2017 after the most recent financial crisis, the global international banker superclass finally decided that technology had gone far enough so that most of the worlds population were no longer needed. They used to crisis as an opportunity to exterminate the general population (terrorists), and bring it down to 500 million. They chose which 500 million would still be allowed to live by data they had collected on them via PRISM.

All the deaths of innocents were blamed on terrorism. Most of the world was considered terrorists by this stage. The global military industrial complex that killed the terrorists and their victims then formed into a global government. Everyone was given a vote (on the internet) and there was much celebration at the end of terrorism.

Then in the year 2042, technology had progressed far enough so that the 500 million were no longer needed and the world's rulers could have their minds transferred into bio-computers. And we have been traveling the universe ever since looking for other alien elite races that had threw off the cockroaches of their own species and gone on an intergalactic voyage. Haven't found any yet.

This period of time, heralded a new dark age.
