Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without windows underneath it, at all ? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services ?

That sounds preposterous to me.

If it were true (and I doubt it), then companies would be selling computers without a windows. This clearly is not happening, so there must be some error in your calculations. I hope you realise that windows is more than just Office ? Its a whole system that runs the computer from start to finish, and that is a very difficult thing to acheive. A lot of people dont realise this.

Microsoft just spent $9 billion and many years to create Vista, so it does not sound reasonable that some new alternative could just snap into existence overnight like that. It would take billions of dollars and a massive effort to achieve. IBM tried, and spent a huge amount of money developing OS/2 but could never keep up with Windows. Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft.

Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.

I think you need to re-examine your assumptions.

Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange...well don't get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren't stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you'll be glad you did.

in this case reading and relaying MAC addresses is simple and requires very little space/power to operate

A firmware is not complex enough to monitor secure communication at OS or application level. As long as you don't use Windows, you should be relatively fine.

Each NIC (network identifiaction card) comes with a MAC address (Macintosh Address) so even if you are using superior MAC Apple or a Intel and a AMD then you can still be traced by the NIC MAC. So I always laugh whenever I heard that someone was using a proxy.

These are theories you can only know about when it goes wrong. Also, it definitely does not contain continuous tracking - that would cause packet detection when examining the computer internet connection/router (which is done regularly throughout the world)

The only possibility is a 'killswitch' that sends over all data on the HDD, or similar, as that is impossible to detect. But I sincerely doubt such a thing exists, for one reason:

You can NOT write an independent hardware module that works on all operating systems with all possible current, past and future network cards and HDDs. It's impossible. If anything, it would be part of the operating system, which can be avoided by going open source.

The only thing that 'could' be possible is a kill-switch, in the network card, to kill off the internet or perhaps crash the OS. But that's it.

Isn't that the GPU of the motherboard at work? You could be right though, since there is no need to 'install' a keyboard. AFAIK you can use a USB keyboard without installing anything on an empty HDD.

I do wonder how this works, though, since it's a bit strange that a BIOS is able to detect a USB port as being a keyboard without any form of driver information.
