I got a job within a couple months of seriously beginning my search. I'm really starting to miss that time off. One of my top goals right now is to ensure I won't be trapped in a cubicle for the rest of my career like so many of the senior people in my office. That's no life.

At the same time, I don't think it's good to mention that you would do the job for free. I had an interview at a very large Fortune 100, and they asked me why they should hire me over everyone else. My response was "I actually enjoy what I do, and I would do it for free. I do it in my free time." They looked shocked when I said this, like they thought I was insulting them for the fact that they got paid for it. I literally think that's the reason I didn't get the job, everything else in the interview went great

I studied law for 2 years, then switched to software development where I got a degree. I couldnt find a job because interviewers wondered why I switched subjects and my social anxiety with lack of facebook account and social activities did the rest (not to mention being nervous during interview because of said anxiety). I am quite sure now I am on online blacklists, as I didnt even get a reply to all my later job applications.

When you apply for a job you should be at least willing to work unpaid for 5 years. After that probationary period you are eligible for the lowest paid position, which will only be part time. After another 5 years of this then you will be ready for a full time position, but since its full time you only make minimum wage. Welcome to wage slavery serfs

i work as an IT manager for a banking company

what i noticed after going to about 10 interviews is that there is no such thing as a good resume

the funny part about my journey towards getting a job is that the _best_ job that i applied for was the one that i got, while at the same time inferior jobs were rejected because my resume "was bad"

what you have to take into consideration is that you are going to be interviewed by different people

if you say you are an atheist, a hardcore christian is likely to consider that bad, but a richard dawkins fanboy is going to consider it good. what you have to ask yourself is, do you want to work for a christian boss or an atheist boss?

most companies had a hobby section in their application form (most companies use online application software) and i put down video games and poker. most people i was interviewed by told me those were the two worst hobbies i could have possibly written down. but when i applied for IT jobs, those two hobbies were perfect

what im trying to say is: be yourself, and eventually you will meet someone who appreciates you for who you truly are, rather than an illusion of an ideal candidate. if you write down "im a conservative jew who does sports and goes to a chess club" when in fact you are an atheist liberal who plays video games and poker, you might end up working with people you dislike
>>
I like how none of you know why companies have non-paid internships. Its to keep the pelbs out who don't have rich parents. Think about it. If a rich kid wants a job mom and did will pay for their living expenses. Its class warfare we are dealing with.

Just got a job as a DST at a large printing company. My boss (IT Manager) asked me my hobbies, I told him I play vidya gaems, read forums and go running.

Turns out he reads the chan, plays WoW and runs marathons. Needless to say, I was hired.

There was some guy on /jp/ who dropped out of school in 8th grade and is now in his mid-20s without even a high school diploma, let alone a job.

There's also that guy from /r9k/ who spent 10 years locked in his room. There's a thread on chanarchive about it. You still have a long way to go until you are the master truNEET of legend.

The job market for actuaries right now is extremely tough. Without several exams passed and an internship completed, you've got your work cut out for you. Expect to pass both P and FM exams and complete an internship before even sniffing a full-time job doing something even remotely actuarial-related. Good luck man. I mean that.

And I suppose you think you're so special that you should have time for yourself, yes? Don't actually think you should work, do you? Secretly believe you're too good for it, hm? Put yourself in my shoes, why would I hire someone who is already predisposed to valuing himself over work? We have plenty of people willing to put work first and themselves last, why would we hire a lazy bones like you? Can we have your internet records please? We want to make sure you haven't been reading any Bob Black essays in your three month absence from the work force. K thanks.

But I don't want a six figure job, I really don't care very much about money. So long as I have enough for my basic needs and a few luxuries from time to time, I'm pretty content. Having a job I enjoy and take pride in is much more important to me than how much it pays.

I'm qualified in IT just below a university level, but honestly I don't have much passion for IT. It was really the only course that my local college offered that I vaguely gave a shit about.

>>
>>15956757

Don't feel too bad about it.

From my experience, hopefully the following will be the silver lining when you see positions like that in the future: By law, companies have to advertise posts or run them through an agency. With posts requiring at least a year's experience, it is often the case that the post is not intended for "an outsider". Simply, the post is either an internal transfer for somebody from one position to another or they already have a temp lined up for a permanent role.

Positions asking for low qualifications and 12 months or slightly more work experience do not really exist for applicants new to the company.

This, I was 25, had no education and no experience, and the job market in Pooland was as crap as it is, and indeed was for the last 8 years.

So I scrounged 800 pounds and moved to the UK. Found a job stacking shelves at night after 4 days. Simply walked in the store, asked for the manager, impressed him with courage (I came straight off the plane, no contacts, no housing secured, no nothing), got the job after 1 trial day. Worked 2, at most 3 nights a week, plus some days, on an 8 hour a week contract. So first it was 3 nights, then on to a couple day shifts, and repeat. But I was never sure if I would actually be working that week.

After 3 months found an opening for a very similar job on the net, in a bigger company. Told my employer to suck it, went over. Got a 30 hour contract out of hand. Now work 3 nights a week for about 900 quid a month. Save almost half of this, because I'm not an idiot who spends money when it can be avoided. The plan now is to go to a trade school, seeing as I have 4 days a week I do fuck all. I was thinking electrician.

why do people get so mad when they miss one day of work. It's always "oh no, my car doesn't start. Now im going to miss a day of work!!"

>>

I'll tell you why that's a bad thing. You sound desperate, and worse yet, the worst things in life usually come "for free." Volunteering your services for free usually means a lack of self-accountability

Good news--your father wouldn't take you back because he didn't raise a quitter. And all the sweetheart country girls all got married by age 19 to the boy who had a locker next to them in high school. Everyone in your small town would know that you failed in the big city; you'd be a laughingstock.
