Explain to me why compulsory military service is a bad idea for any democracy.

benefits:
1. teach young people about hard work, responsibility and being an adult
2. build friendship
3. learn to lead and follow
4. teach useful skills
5. teach self defense
6. allow for easily mobilised manpower for defense or disaster relief
7. get young people fit

Yes, good goyim. Die for israel with no choice whatsoever.
>>
>slavery is good
>>
It isn't.

It's just a hard sell to the public.

Chances of H.R. 758 passing, however, are between 1% and 3%.
>>
thats why i done joined the army

Nobody likes being told what to do

>explain to me why forcing citizens at gunpoint to take up arms against strangers is a bad thing for democracy

What a stupid fucking person you are.

What if I don't want to serve in the military?

You can join other civil service instead.

firefighting, perhaps?

>1. teach young people about hard work, responsibility and being an adult

Things, you know, things that are usually learned without signing months/years of your life away?

>2. build friendship

lel. Less so than pretty much everything else that involves going outside of your basement.

>3. learn to lead and follow

No, all it does is teach you to follow.

>4. teach useful skills

lel. This is not Ancient Rome anymore. 99% of everything you learn in the army is useless outside of it unless you sign up for Blackwater or some other such outfit.

>5. teach self defense

lel. You're not allowed to defend yourself if you're in Europe.

>6. allow for easily mobilised manpower for defense or disaster relief

As opposed to a non-conscripted force being much less mobile?

>7. get young people fit

Maybe, but only to a very, very low standard.

because its so expensive.
thats why sweden gave it up few years ago and finland is going to give it up soon

I wouldn't mind that.

I think we've decided, the first world countries anyway, that we should choose our own paths in life whether that leads us to the military or not.

The U.S. simply offers as many incentives as they can so that enough people volunteer.

The older I get, the more I think compulsory service is a good idea.

It's not even a "fuck it, got mine" sort of deal - when I was 18, I was an unorganized, out of shape piece of shit with no direction, no principals, no goals in life. Compulsory service would have probably done me a lot of good. Of course, I'd have hated it at the time, but it's one of those things where I could probably look back on it and say I was thankful for it.

I have younger siblings and have had many opportunities to hang out with them and their friends under a variety of circumstances, and I can honestly say that teenagers today are frighteningly different from what I and my peers were like. I am honestly scared for the younger generation's future (and mine once I have to start relying on them), and I think something like compulsory service would be just the ticket to whip them into shape.

And I agree that it teaches invaluable life skills, helps forge long-lasting bonds of friendship, and it would make you a better man overall.

We were going to try it in the U.S. after WWII, but the public couldn't stomach it that soon after a massive draft. There's literally no downside to it though, we certainly should have mandatory federal service for 18-21 year olds. Not necessarily military but something worthwhile.
>>
>>11009422 (OP)

The main reason is "muh rights"

Forcing someone into slavery for their country is no different than if we forced everyone to work in the fields for a few years.

- anon, 3/8/13

>"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

- Socrates, Ancient Greece

You're just getting old, anon. Old people bitch and moan about the youth every generation, always claiming that this new brood will be the death of civilization. Face it, you're just jealous. Everyone who ever lived was jelous of the youth. I, too, will grumble and complain about the young whippersnappers while I massaged my creaking knees, when my time to be old comes.

So let me get this straight. You were a piece of shit. You joined the military? You improved? Therefore, everyone else should be forced into military service?

The problem with that is that I'm 18 now and I'm not a piece of shit. I am organized. I'm in good shape. I have direction. I have principals. I have goals in life.

I get it, compulsory service would be good for pieces of shit like you.
