Ask a catholic who goes to church every Sunday anything.

>I love you brothers, sisters, even if you choose to ridicule me and my faith I'll be glad to answer to your questions

At what point in your life did you decide to believe in God?

Was there any event in particular that led you to your faith now?

In what way does your religion benefit you?
>>
>>10810190
Oh, a few more:

How often do you pray?

How often do you feel God answers your prayers?

Does he ever speak to you directly? If so, what does he say?
>>
serious question OP. why follow a faith that is a splinter/heresy of another, been modified countless times and is generally backwards thinking?
>>
Fellow Catholic here, what did you give up for Lent?
>>

You lazy sinner. You're supposed to take communion everyday.

Enjoy your suffering in purgatory.
>>
Why do you follow a church complicit in both taking part and then trying to cover up vast sexual abuse scandals?

And think of everything over the past 2000 years which has never been reported, all those altar boys taking pastor cock ip their asses. You don't think this is a new phenomenon do you?

Spare the Catholics. They just want to feel awed by all the unnecessary pagan magic they call 'liturgy' and 'tradition'.

Is a world as turmoil as this one, Catholicism is a great distraction and comfort.

True, they stole some of it like the niggers they are, but it doesnt make them pagan.

How can justify associating with and supporting an organization complicit in covering up widespread sexual abuse of children?

1. Brought up in half-christian family. Atheist mother, catholic father, although I haven't been living with my father since age of 8. Turned to religion and became mild christian at age of 14, but I didn't really care. Then after accident gave my life to God at age of 16/17.

2. Religion keeps me secure. I cannot disagree with it. But I see God's grace in everyday life situation. Beauty of the world, complex philosophy I do much research on, relationship with people. I kind of... fear who could I become without faith now.

>>10810361

I try to pray 3 times a day, each prayer around 20 minutes long. Practically I pray once a day, maybe 15 minutes long, but I often turn to God with thoughts during the day. God doesn't speak to me directly. He speaks in images or sudden understanding of specific parts of prayer that I can apply to my life currently. He guides me, often through conscience too.

Not OP but that same organization holds hundreds of charity events per year and is the largest charity contributor. They house and protect various paintings and artifacts of cultural, religious, and historic value.

If you're American or British, I'd ask you the same (see recent Jimmy Saville case with the BBC cover ups and the various pedophiles rings in the US).

>Practically I pray once a day, maybe 15 minutes long, but I often turn to God with thoughts during the day
Liberal Catholic detected. Proper Catholics don't pray to God directly. You just use all the prayerbooks written for you to read from them as prayer.

Atheist here.... well sliding back into Agnostic here.
Never been to Church before, I feel its a large part of Culture I've missed out on and honestly I feel like learning something about this Religion.

If I go to Church tommorow morning, will I be asked to go home because I'm not Christian (yet, on the fence) or will there be anything I need to do before I go?

Also what to wear?

Serious question by the way, chears.
>>
>>10810665

You'd not believe how many more of these incidents happen in different institutions like for example education department. Media choose to focus on church, what is understandable part of liberal agenda.

John Paul the Second, as much as I loved him as a person he was, didn't do anything to combat phedophilia inside the Church.

Pope Benedict XVI was first to approach the problem and fought it efficiently. We will see in coming years the effect of his work.
>>
>>10811266
>Will I be asked to go home because I'm not Christian (yet, on the fence) or will there be anything I need to do before I go?
No. Never seen that ever happen and I've gone to Church thousands of times.
Went to a friend to his protestant church (I'm Catholic) and they were open as well.

>Also what to wear?
A dress shirt with decent pants are nice, but if you don't own one anything really (as long as you don't go with something indecent like wearing only a pair of boxer shorts).

Hope that helped mate

>If you're American or British, I'd ask you the same (see recent Jimmy Saville case with the BBC cover ups and the various pedophiles rings in the US).

Although the crime is just as heinous, the difference is that the BBC doesn't claim to be an infallible source of morality and righteousness, unlike the Catholic Church.

Is it true that you believe in evolution?
>>
>>10809842 (OP)

So, according to my (admittedly weak) understanding of Catholic doctrine, everyone is destined for Hell unless they metaphysically accept the sacrifice of Jesus to purge their sins.

How is that just? You're being rewarded for something someone else did. If you can be saved because of Jesus's sacrifice, then it should be logically consistent that you could be damned because Apu in the year 3016 murders someone.
>>
>>10811266

Brother, I don't know about other churches apart from Catholic. If you choose a catholic one, what I'd recommend to you, just go inside before the service, take a seat in a back row and listen.

Follow the rituals, do what other people do. Listen to the sermon. Discuss it with yourself in your mind. If you'll be feeling ready, go to the confessional, approach a priest sitting there and tell him that you're agnostic. He'll offer you guidiance. Wear whatever you like, preferably elegant or casual clothes.
>>
>>10811143
I bet you thought that mafias were a good thing since they helped the community
>>
>>10811431
Even the Catholic Church has stated they believe in the theory of evolution. The only ones I've seen go nuts about it are American protestants.

Catholic here. Still don't understand this part though:

Why did God sacrifice Himself, to Himself, in order to save us all from His judgement.

Makes it confusing about how we're supposed to feel about that situation.

Thanks guys, it is a Catholic Church I'm wondering over, my Grandparents were Catholic and looked up to them. Parents were Atheist so never had any reason to look into it before Uni.

Will report back later in the day how it turned out, thankyou.
>>
Are niggers equal to people in the eyes of the Lord?

If yes, how can God be all-knowing? If no, how can the church be fair?

Checkmate, theist.
>>

Not OP but I guess it was symbolic. Like the plagues in Egypt weren't needed, but they were basically anti-blessings of what the Egyptian god's provided
>>
>>10811687
Church =/= God himself
>>
>>10811465

Difference between human and living God is that Jesus sacrificed himself for you. Not for a large mass of anonymous people. Just for you, personally. You gotta understand this. He planned your creation and your further salvation. He purged your basic sin. One you were born with. Throughout your life you'll commit various acts of good and bad. He sees your intentions. My religion does not claim you're destinated for hell just because of lack of belief, you know?

It is written: "Nations of the world will be judged by love and love only" and "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’"

Don't join the Catholic church. It is a false church.

The truth teachings of Jesus resides within the Assyrian Church of the East. Instead of sucking Roman cock and adopting Latin, or sucking Greek cock and adaopting Greek, we're still using Aramaic, the original dialect that Jesus spoke.
>>
>>10811687
Not OP here.
Different but equal.
Also, The Catholic Church used to preach about homogeneous societies and for people not to trust the chosen people.

That doesn't alter my problem with the doctrine. I am saved or changed or purified not because of something I did, but because of something someone who died over 2,000 years ago did. How is it just to divorce divine Providence from the person doing the sinning and the acts of righteousness?

How can Jesus even be relevant as anything more than perhaps a teacher?
>>
How can you really believe that there is a "place" where your "soul" goes when you die? Whats the deal? Do you guys just ignore the fact that the existence of such a place is impossible? Or that there is no explanation for a "soul"?
>>

On a scale of 1-10, how long huge is your nose, Mr. Goldstein?
>>
>>10811966

I approached the problem for you. Because of God's love for a mankind he's giving you "carte blanche" because of Jesus' sacrifice. You'll still have to fill it with your deeds throughout your life.

If you're still unsure on the whole concept I recommend you reading "Brothers Karamazov" by Fedor Dostoyevski. It's one of most powerful studies of the salvation phenomena.

>>10812365
What you are saying right there, is that it is imaginary. If it isn't material, then its imaginary. You just portray yourselves as stupid, or childish, believing that you will go to an imaginary place after your death. You will not go anywhere. You create false hopes your whole life, worshiping someone who isn't there, and wasting your precious life. The only one you have. And the big problem here is, that nobody can laugh in your face for it either, because you, and I will be dead. All Christianity ever was, was a money making scheme. And it still is. And it was also a way to control people. Think about telling a child off, "You wont get any desert!", or somthing like that. Christianity was an easy way to tell everyone to keep in line "Be good, or you will go to hell". Unfortunatly, people still believe its real.
>>
>>10812938
