I believe 90% of all ROTC officers do so through college. Also, West Point or the other academies are some of the hardest colleges to get into.. probably harder or just as hard as any ivy league school.

You can't join the military without a high school diploma or GED. Also, you have to pass the ASVAB before you can join. It's easy, but they do have requirements. Also, the dumbest in the bunch are usually assigned to tasks that don't require much expertise, just repetition.
