any such system, what you would see would -not- be ten million
individuals making votes based off of their individual enlightened self
interest, pardon me.
What you would see would be demagogues,
movements religious and secular, and generally any group that can spark
that little tribal synapse in the monkey's brain sweeping up the votes
of millions of people at a time, convincing them to vote in certain
ways, often quite contrary to their own interests.
What you would
get would be tribes bending each other to their will through weight of
population. Consider the tribe itself to be "in charge", if you will, or
perhaps someone will rise to the top of it. Doesn't matter much, it's
the same thing. |
