To design, acquire materials for, build and market an iphone 4 it would be about $100. They are sold for $400+. I design the electronic layout of these devices for a living and Jesus the consumers get raped on the prices.

Check out a website like dealsextreme.com. All those 'knock offs' that are selling for -100% to -1000% off are made with the exact same components. They are the same devices. They just don't go through the standard quality assurance testing as the brand name devices do so you end up having to warranty out more often if you shop there exclusively.
