Marine here. If an engagement has occurred before entering the house they has reason to believe that if the locals inhabiting the house are not completely passive that they have malicious intent (depending on the year and ROE) Only recently has it turned into the Hearts and Minds BS. If the people in the house acted in a hostile manner, even if they were unarmed, ie attempted to notify attackers that US forces were in their house they were in the right. However when word got out, it became a PR issue and if they did not do "something" about it then there would have been a huge public outcry.

Desk chair jockey leaked classified documents, whether moral or not is not the issue. If you have a Secret clearance or higher you sign an acknowledgement that if you do anything like he did you understand you are knowingly consenting to charges to be determined such as treason and espionage.

No good deed goes unpunished, basically. If you want to save everyone from their sins, then you have to be ready to die for a bunch of grateful persecuting assholes. That's why people loved the fuck outta Jesus for so long. He was all "I'm calling all ya'll out for your bullshit and the bullshit goin' on this country. Ya'll are fuckin' dumbasses" and the bad Jews were like, "Yo stfu Jesus, I'm tryin' to sodomize my neighbor's wife hea'. Get crucified, bitch".

So now we got this Pvt. Manning guy all like "Yo, fuck this bullshit. This needs to end now!" The army General's don't see it that way. They're thinkin' this guy is Officer Buzzkill and came to end the party. Unfortunately, their idea of a party is gangbangin' foreigners' wives and daughters then blowin' their shit up from launching a damn missile, mortar, or artillery shell from the other side of mountain. You all saw those videos. Our boys turn to big gaping pussies in a real fight when they know they got a 50-50 chance of dying.

So, Pvt. Manning, though you will suffer for our sins, I will salute you as a true man of peace who strove to establish justice and truth on this planet. I am truly grateful for standing up for mankind.

Is this justice in the broader, humanistic sense of the word? Not really, no, and everyone knows it. But, funnily enough, there seem to be a lot of people nowadays who hold the belief that we don't live in a feudal society anymore, and that those in power, whether political or military power, do not make their own rules.

Just seconds before, in the same house, he walked into a room to find an AK-47 in his face. He killed that guy. It was a combat situation. 3 guys, together and one has a weapon, you shoot all of those fuckers. That simple. You neckbeards have no concept of combat. You really do want to live in a country that commits crimes against humanity (I think this has gone pretty fucking far past "war crime") and punishes those who expose it, don't you?

Look-Manning did not find evidence of a crime and act as a whistleblower to expose the crime. He didn't take suspicions to the proper authorities, so releasing the info was NOT a response to a coverup.

What he did was collect as much secret information as he could and indiscriminately release it. He did it to cause as much intentional damage as he could.

Let him stay in solitary. Putting him in GP just gives him cocks to suck, which is what the candy-assgot wants anyway.

    Yes.

Sgt. WhatsHisFace did something common in war. Although there are rules of engagment, those rules are a grey area when it comes to actual combat and so it blures a person's judgment. Therefore the consiquences are also blurred. I believe he got what he deserved.

Pvt. Faggot. The rules of information are crystal clear and so are the consiquences. Whatever the information is or was reguardless of content is kept behind lock and key for a reason. That information can be used against the US, impyling that the content can be twisted....because we all know how reporters are! He should be court martialed, for civiilians that just means COURT....you can go to court for just about anything...i.e. sleeping on the job.

The PVT is lucky he is facing life in prison and not facing a noose! Seriously! That crime is punishable by death! These days it is horrific to think of that, but any other time in history he would have stood in a fireing range.

For his sake he better have a damn good lawyer. But I seriously hope he gets hung, not for 'Merica but for the rest of use who know how to shut the fuck up.

There is a process, by willingly exposing all of the information, to everyone, any possible security threats involved in his unregulated release of information are open and alive, whereas if he had taken this information to the appropriate military authorities and expressed his feelings, they could have kept any valuable secrets hidden and punished those responsible. If he convinced the court he was merely trying to find justice they may take it into consideration, but according to the letter of the law, he's guilty.

Actually, he did release a video of a helicopter blowing the shit out of a bunch of reporters. This was his primary concern. He tried to use his chain of command to report this, but got nowhere.

Aside from that, he released evidence of Egyptian torture personnel being trained by the CIA, the US supporting wage quashing in Haiti on behalf of multinational corporations, the fact that the US DOES keep a body count in Iraq and Afghanistan (as opposed to what we have been told by two successive presidents), I could go on, but you obviously do not care about what criminal secrets your government keeps from you, you just want to see a queer kid whose morality makes you uncomfortable and whose sexuality makes you question your own get punished so you can feel safe and straight, never once having to question your complicity in murder or your own sexuality.

Except, he did do that. He went to his chain of command and got the cold shoulder. Rather than be complicit in the coverup of MURDER, he decided to do something about it.

I'm guessing that threatens your sense of masculinity since you would be too much of a coward to do that, and instead would just hunker back to your desk with a meek "yes sir." So therefore, you have to argue that his actions were not, in fact, courageous, just so you can still feel like you have a bigger cock than the gay kid who was much braver than you'll ever be.

A man, releases Government secrets to the press, allowing them to spin them any way they want, these documents that he turned over probably containing names of the men involved, and more importantly showing weaknesses in our government to anyone with a satellite connection. This man endangered the lives of every single person in the United States at the very least, indirectly. Yes a government has secrets, and those secrets are part of what protects its people. If a man in my country endangers the lives of my people, he would die for it. So would his superiors who decided to do nothing with the information though, outside of collateral damage there is no excuse for killing innocent civilians and those who do are of no use to the military, so I would have punished them accordingly.

You didn't finish the story. The government has secrets that are secret for obviously good reasons (missile launch codes, military hardware shit, fleet positions, troop movements, etc). There are also bad secrets for bad reasons (US intentionally supporting wage quashing in Haiti, missing money from contractors, keeping a tally of civilian deaths when saying we don't, covering up murder, etc).

The latter type are the secrets that Manning revealed. I'm fine with this. The government was abusing its privilege for secrecy by covering up shit that made it look bad and was criminal.

But I guess you're fine with it, huh? As long as the government says it needs to be secret, then who are we (the taxpayers) to say any different, huh?

I would still face a court marshal and a dishonorable discharge(possibly) or death, and assassination is far better than life in prison.

Yes what they did was wrong, and they should be punished, but by releasing this information he could have jeopardized the lives of people still living, and their lives are more important than those past dead.

    >> Anonymous 02/08/12(Wed)12:07:56 No.379788206
    >>379787400

I was wondering what exactly I said that I wouldn't have said if I were (*cough, I actually was, dickweed) in the military.

The life of a US soldier, to me and to the rest of the world, is worth considerably less than the civilians they are killing because they are the ones committing the crime. And let's remember, nobody who committed the crime of breaking in, tying up, and blowing away unarmed civilians was ever punished.

You can't get me to say that I believe reporting a crime to those who will listen is in any way tantamount to committing the crime itself.

And, for the record, the STATE DEPARTMENT (the organization that has everything to gain and nothing to lose by saying Manning's actions killed a soldier) has stated that there have been no deaths as a result of Manning's actions.

    You lose.

And for the record, I don't give two tugs of a dead dog's cock how many military members get killed because of Manning's actions. They are there, in a criminal invasion, as part of a criminal force, all VOLUNTEER, which means they are all CRIMINALS.

I have come to terms with this and have found peace, though I daily seek forgiveness for ever being a part of such an organization.

Says another fascist boot licking shill. Even in the military there are rules against following an illegal order.
Intentionally targeting journalists, civilians, rape of women and children, torture ...these are ALL illegal actions.

Simply following orders is NOT a reason to commit these crimes. So no, what Manning did was expose the crimes being committed and not actually violate anything.

Simply being sworn to secrecy doesn't excuse you from being liable to the crimes being committed. Ever hear of The Nuremberg trials?

Manning released far more documents than the three you keep mentioning, and each of them could contain just enough information for our enemies to do us harm, things that may have no meaning when alone in their singular file, could shed light on military secrets, that is Mannings crime. The others may have hurt innocent people but at least they're actions don't put the country in danger. And as much as you assholes seem to like bashing America, you do need to know that the world will suffer if America ever faces a real threat.

If you're a soldier, you sign up to die. You should fully be prepared to do so, and expect it to happen to you and those around you.

For civilians, this is not the case. The killing of a soldier is par for the course, it goes with the territory. Killing a civilian, however, is indefensible. That the military disregards civilian lives so they can avoid any and all danger to soldiers is reprehensible.

manning didn't betray his country. he betrayed his military to protect his country. he took an oath to uphold the constitution and to defend his country from enemies, both foreign AND DOMESTIC. he found out our military was lying to our country and it was hurting our country, so he exposed our military for its illegal acts which only serve to harm our country. penalize him if you want, but life in prison? that's bullshit.

as wuterich, it's not like they went into a village, were engaged in combat, went into a house, thought they were being attacked and fired. they were in a peaceful village and planned to enter what they knew was a civilian home. they chose to go in and harass the people. when the people didn't stand for it, he ordered his men to shoot. they then marched innocent people, without weapons, out into the street, laughed at them, beat them, then killed them. he's a sick murdering fuck. but he only gets 90 days in jail. that's bullshit.

What's wrong with exposing war crimes?
Just because it's the U.S. doesn't mean they don't slaughter civies.
