>The Huffington Post (HP) has just revealed a leaked memo that President Obama is negotiating granting governmental powers that supersede sovereignty to international corporations, it might just be time to stock up on tin foil.

>the Obama administration is backing an international court that would have the right to override national laws in favor of corporations. The implications are staggering for the environment, financial oversight and unions, according to the Huffington Post.Even life-saving medicine could be monopolized and raised to a level that would make some vital medications unaffordable to all but those with wealth or top insurance policies.

Bump. This merits investigation, and if true, merits wide-scale circulation. YOU have the power to act. USE IT.
>>

erm this is not about giving corporations powers. this is about taking them away.

>>the Obama administration is backing an international court that would have the right to override national laws in favor of corporations.

what this means is the international governing body will override laws in countries, not necessarily in favor of corporations. So if a country has no minimum wage law, the international court could order the corporation to pay a minimum wage.

it is giving the UN the power to regulate all international corporations.

This shit is like cyberpunk corps, soon we will have corporations killing inventors or patent holders to steal their property and they would be exonerated on some ridiculous fair use shit which only applies to multibillion dollar industries. Yup we are doomed to be a forsaken race.
I wonder how we will awaken from this kind of world...is there anything better? Will they get better? Or is this the best?

>he leaked document has been posted on the website of Public Citizen, a long-time critic of the administration's trade objectives. The new leak follows substantial controversy surrounding the secrecy of the talks, in which some members of Congress have complained they are not being given the same access to trade documents that corporate officials receive.

>"The outrageous stuff in this leaked text may well be why U.S. trade officials have been so extremely secretive about these past two years of [trade] negotiations," said Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch in a written statement.

>Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has been so incensed by the lack of access as to introduce legislation requiring further disclosure. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has gone so far as to leak a separate document from the talks on his website. Other Senators are considering writing a letter to Ron Kirk, the top trade negotiator under Obama, demanding more disclosure.

"Bush was better than Obama on this," said Judit Rius, U.S. manager of Doctors Without Borders Access to Medicines Campaign, referring to the medication rules. "It's pathetic, but it is what it is. The world's upside-down."

Oh no! The evil republicans say corporations are people! I don't want corporations to be entities! I'd so much rather not be able to tax or sue them!

But Obama F. Black Jesus Kennedy gives corporations sovereign powers and that's perfectly fine! Hope and change and hope and change and hope and change and yes we can!

CENTER RIGHT REPUBLICANS ARE GOING TO HAVE A TOUGH FUCKING CHOICE TO MAKE BETWEEN ROMNEY AND OBAMA
>>
>>3630850
I disagree.

Socialism was used as a corporate tool to rob the people of their rights and freedoms as far back as WW1.

Look at the Bolshevik revolution in Russia and try to tell me that the left-wing wasn't entirely created upon this concept of manipulation.

Shit... look at the supposed "left" and "right" in the West (I'm of the opinion that they are both just masks of the elite). Republicans are no longer truly "right"... they are simply less "left" than the Democrats. This applies to almost every left/right paradigm in the West with regards to political parties.

The ideologies of the left-wing have seeped into every political party because it's a convenient tool of the elite for convincing people they are giving up their rights/liberties for something "good".
>>
>>3630663

If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth programme, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs.

Communism or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite.

>>
This is pure spin. What this is really about, is giving the UN the power to regulate all international corporations.

So the UN will probably be MORE oppressive rule wise than the countries it is taking power away from.

They want to make it so it will be impossible for corporations to escape over-regulation and taxation by moving to a different country.

Its the First Past the Post voting you guys have. I swear, this is the cause of all your political shenanigans (okay, along with lobbyists).

You have two parties with major bases of support, yes? You get one vote, and winner takes all in each seat.

So in effect, you only vote for first or second place. Any party weaker than that has no chance.

In a preferential system (like in australia) you have multiple rounds of voting; so you could vote, say, Libertarian 1 Repub 2. If one of the major parties gets over 50% of the 1 votes, they still win. However if there is not enough, the voting enters a second round and the second preferences are added. You end up with the 'two party preferred' figure.

What is the upshot? Well, you can vote safely for parties in order of preference, without fear of wasting your vote and allowing the hated big party to win without fighting them.

In this way minor parties can gain much more support, far more representative of the actual opinion of the population.

Then there's proportional representation (which our senate uses) where each party is assigned seats in proportion to the popular vote. So if you win 15% of votes, you get 15% of seats.

No, I'm sorry. That's stupid. The expropriation of private property out of the control of the wealthy and into the commons is not in the interests of the wealthy. They'd probably be killed in the process, too.

The ideas that communism, as in, the real historical movement to overthrow capitalism, is either A - not in the interest of the expropriated laboring masses or B - in the interests of the wealthy - are just populist fetishist myths. Mostly because they have absolutely no understanding of what capitalism is. They think it's a market economy, when in reality, the market is incidental to value production and wage labor.

Also, I make $8.00 an hour, so don't tell me I'm some upper class mook. I want them fucking dead.

Leftist here. I know what you mean. I want to find a party with a platform of freedom, workers' self management and equality of opportunity.

The right wing is in favour of the bosses outright, and the left wing usually SEEMS in favour of workers' control, but has turned against it so much that its now impossible to tell who actually means it.

Probably the mutualists and anarcho-syndicalists are the most sincere, but their plans call for abolishing the state, which is far more ambitious than mere workers' self management, and thus a programme with far more possible points of failure.

*sigh* fuck this gay earth.
