  • STOP INTERNET CENSORSHIP—TWO BILLS IN CONGRESS UNDERMINE THE PRINCIPLES OF THE WEB

American Censorship Day: November 16, 2011
On November 16th, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" will be heard in Congress. This legislation, in addition to the Senate's "Protect IP Act," completely undermine and fundamentally change the core principles of the Web. They have the potential to radically alter or shut down sites like YouTube, Flickr, 4chan, others, and all new companies that follow.
See americancensorship.org for more and help us stop these bills from becoming law.

(Site back online after DDoS—sorry about the downtime. Be sure to follow @4chan and @moot on Twitter and check status.4chan.org in the event of future downtime.)

I just realized that if this censorship law is passed, 4chan will be fucked.

Is there a way from a person NOT from the US to help?

You can help by advocating free speech through the Internet. Starting threads like this one is a great way to help.

I'm from Israel, but I don't have enough money to bribe them!

Recall elections against the bill's sponsors and against any politician who pans to vote for it.

It's the only thing those pliticians will understand. Otherwise they'll just live int heir mansions while seeing themselves as our "leaders" whose job it is to tell us what's best for us even if every last American opposes it.

I am serious. When politicians ignore the public, recall elections are the only thing that'll get through to them.
    >> Anonymous 11/16/11(Wed)08:17 No.325143
Don't count on the media helping out. The news networks are owned by the same hyper-giant corporations who also own the bill's sponsors like the MPAA and RIAA. It's all one giant cartel.

It'll have to be entirely grassroots because of it.

And recall elections. Nothing makes an arrogant politician who's become deaf to the people listen like one of those.

But how can a guy from OUTSIDE the US help?
    >> Anonymous 11/16/11(Wed)08:19 No.325158
It won't pass because of the first amendment. his is just going to be one of many wastes of tax payer money. And if it defies all rules of logic and DOES pass, the public outcry will be so terrible that the law will be amended.

    >It won't pass because of the first amendment

Oh shit nigga you made me laugh. The Constitution fucking ends when the government decides to do something or wants something from you.

    Examples:
--Prohibition of slavery ends when the government drafts you for the army or forces you into jury duty
--the Constitutional provision outlawing debtor's prison ends when the IRS decides you owe them money
--free speech ends when a judge hits you with a gag order.
--shit as we see in the occupy protests, your right to protest can be denied if you don't buy a permit first and can end on whatever bullshit reason the politicians feel like.

The government doesn't give a fuck. "Rights" are things that exist to force the American people to profit large corporaitons and serve the government, and nothing more.

This. The government does what it wants, which is usually serving the fucking corporations.

You're only "free" enough to buy shit from those corporations to keep them large, and to pay taxes to keep the government big.

Yes, but in this case the corporation in question is google. http://gamepolitics.com/2011/05/19/google-executive-slams-new-039protect-ip-act039-bill

    >Google+
    >mandatory non-anonymity

Seriously, sign up with a bunk account. Watch your ass get banned and your email account along with it. You can't even sign up as 'DJ Icey' or 'Marilyn Manson'. Hell, 'Mark Twain' would've been in violation of their TOS if he'd signed up using any name other than Samuel Clemens.

People are nervous to post non-anonymously. My Google+ feed sucks. Bunch of links to tech articles, mostly.

Fuck Google+ , and fuck this impending law.

I have the Flagfox plugin installed.

I'll tell you guys if 4chan moved to Israel, alright?
