I don't think we need states any more.

    Just counties.

The federal government should have some power over the states, although that power should primarily be the focus of upholding the bill of rights.

Anything else should be the priority of the state. Things like education, health care, subsidies, etc should be state issues and not federal issues.

Retarded. The state/country delineation is semantic.

    Neither.

To say "I'd rather be governed by THIS government instead of THAT one" is retarted.

It's either you're governed by a government, or you're not. It's all inherently tyrannical.
    >> Anonymous 04/27/12(Fri)20:58 No.2846584
    Fuck central government.

At least with states I have a choice to move when it gets too shitty but federalists give no choice, ever.
    >> Anonymous 04/27/12(Fri)20:59 No.2846588
States (people) can be pretty damn stupid. I believe that an elite should rule because your super intelligent and perfect political opinion carries just about as much weight as a dumb nigger voting for Obama because he black.

No it's not perfect, but it's better.
    >> Anonymous 04/27/12(Fri)20:59 No.2846600
There's no such thing. Only individuals have rights. Legally, state governments are charged with protecting the rights not specifically enumerated by the constitution for the federal government to protect. Of course, when I say legal, I'm talking about the same system that forbids having sex in any position other than missionary, or that it's illegal to wage war without a declaration, unless you categorize bombing as "aid." In other words, it's meaningless. You are ultimately the only person who can defend your rights, but like MLK said, "As long as injustice exists anywhere, it is in danger everywhere." Defend your rights and those in your community. Stop passively drifting through your meaningless life. Americans have no culture, no music, no community - they are spiritually devoid. Americans are blind, deaf, and dumb concerning truth and beauty. Their minds are mush, and they are uncivilized. Still, benefiting from its empire is nice.

federal government was never intended to have this much power.

    state rights> federal authority

The founding fathers did not want one little district to control the entire country.

    >what do you think about federal rights vs state rights /pol/?

Governments don't have any rights. Only people have rights. Governments only have powers.

Individual rights >> State powers > Federal powers
    >> Anonymous 04/27/12(Fri)21:06 No.2846688
Federal rights should be about enforcing the US Constitution, issues that cross state-lines (interstate), issues of national importance or that effect every state.

States rights are for states to deal with issues that are specific to their state.

The real state rights should be to meet or exceed federal laws or requirements or deal with issues that seem to be of national importance but not large enough for the federal government to get involved.
