No, but America's fought plenty of wars to protect its interests. After World War II the game changed fairly drastically, and the US had to shift gears. Instead of keeping its troops in reserve while Europe beat itself senseless then coming in to protect American interests and maintain the balance of power, the US now had to use its troops in small, directed attacks that spoiled attempts at organizing coalitions that were anti-US and could actually threaten American interests regionally.

As a matter of fact, the US has done that quite well, with the exception of present conflicts, which is why everything's so fucked up now. We've deviated from a foreign policy that has worked for the US for, like, over a hundred years, maybe two hundred. We got too involved, and we paid the price for it.
