    >"Professor Richard Lynn, emeritus professor of psychology at Ulster University, said many more members of the "intellectual elite" considered themselves atheists than the national average. A decline in religious observance over the last century was directly linked to a rise in average intelligence, he claimed."
    >"Professor Lynn, who has provoked controversy in the past with research linking intelligence to race and sex, said university academics were less likely to believe in God than almost anyone else."

Here's the actual study, if any of you fags are willing to spend $30 just to read it:

Yeah the "intellectual elites" are less likely to believe in God, this has been true for a while. I'll go a step further and say most "elites" are less likely to believe in God. That doesn't mean that every atheist is an "intellectual elite", as much as they'd like to think of themselves that way. Also a lot of "intellectual elites"can be fucking stupid thuggish blowhards, including our white supremacist friend Professor Lynn.

That being said, atheists do have high levels of mental illness, social maladaption, defective personality, and yes, autism as well.

All the more evidence that atheists are simply more intelligent than lesser humans. We truly are the next step in human evolution.

Sadly, there is a long way to go, and much like children, theists are notoriously stubborn in their resistance to obvious scientific realities of the universe. And any time a child is lectured by an adult, for their own good, they think the adult is an asshole, is an enemy. Because of this insecurity, they perceive the atheists as somehow being "smug", when actually, they are just using their superior intelligence and analytical skills, and not falling back on old fairytales for morality. They'll keep peddling their hateful bile against us in a vain desperate attempt to protect their own insecurities, but it won't last forever. Not if we have anything to say about it. They know their days are numbered.

Whatever the cause, their existential enlightenment is inevitable once the atheistic truth becomes too blatant to avoid, and we will be there to stand over them and politely say, "We told you so". An international economic or environmental crisis is probably what it would have to take for people to finally cut of all ties to the wilful self-deceptions that are supernatural beliefs, but perhaps it would be for the greater good in the end.

After all, what can be a greater good than the truth? Perhaps when they realize that we're doing this for their own good, and we're not their "enemies" for teaching them to abandon the irrational mental poison that is "faith", they'll finally understand. They just need to look at themselves critically, for once in their lives.

And I believe that day will come sooner than we all think. Because we already won, they just don't realize it yet.

Why are atheists so fucking autistic they don't understand that? Even theists understand that.

The theistic majority will become the nonentity once humanity sees the obvious truth of reality, that us precious few have already realized long ago - that their beliefs are flatly wrong and founded in delusional nonexistent fantasies. Their childish fear and insecurities can only hold out so long, and atheistic virtues of rationality and truth will triumph over them in the end. while victims of the all powerful, corrupt catholic church would probably go up to a couple million throughout its entire existence (as an archaelogy major I saw a paper that summarized inquisition court proceedings in the 14th through 17th centuries and came up with a figure of about 30 thousand burned witches and heretics) the fact remains that atheistic regimes in the 20th century have far, far outperformed the church in terms of mass killing, atrocity and genocide.

And yes these people were killed in the name of atheism because it was done in the name of Reason, Logic, Progress and Civilization.

Atheism is simply the act of abstaining from having a superstitious belief system. It's nothing crazy or outlandish, it's quite logical in fact. There is no reason to believe in a God, no evidence of one or multiple ones, existing. Occam's razor teaches us that the most likely answer is the simplest. Also, on the topic of insecurity. Religion is often used as a way for people to cope with their own mortality. If religion is challenged, so is said person's claim to afterlife, reincarnation, or whatever other voodoo they may believe in. This is frightening to most people, and so they have an emotional, primitive, hostile response.

Atheists are smarter and better educated than such superstitious types. As a result, the religious feel inferior, as they are quite capable of perceiving that gulf of intellect between them and the atheist. It makes them insecure when faced with people being logical and using their intelligence. But rather than simply accept that they are having an emotional reaction to losing an argument, they find the need to make ad hominem type attacks and character assassination. It's quite sad, really. But alas, such is humanity, is it not?

Faith is inherently harmful. It teaches that this world is not the one that matters. It makes martyrdom the one's highest possible goal, and teaches that vast swathes of the world are all evil people because they worship the wrong imaginary friend or do so in the wrong way. Look at all the stupid sectarian divisions within the world's major religions and all the blood that's been spilled over them: transubstantiation vs. consubstantiation, the supremacy of Rome or the Archbishop of Canterbury, twelver Shia vs. Fiver Shia, Sunni vs. Shiite, Sunni and Shiite vs. Druze, etc.

Faith is the root of all evil, and atheism is the cure.

    >do you have studies comparing atheists to "religious" christians? perhaps a link between crime and religion?

Not Christians but the religious in general, of course:

    >An impression based on a vote-counting method of reviewing studies on religion and personality is that religiosity is associated only with low Psychoticism (or high Agreeableness and Conscientiousness), while unrelated to the other Eysenck's or Big Five factors. This meta-analytic review of studies on religion and the Five Factor Model revealed that, in addition to Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, religiosity (today?) is related to Extraversion.
    http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0191886900002336

So in terms of the effects religion has on PERSONALITY you are more agreeable, conscientious (aka less psychotic), and more extroverted.

    Here are definitions per wiki:
    >Conscientiousness is a tendency to show self-discipline, act dutifully, and aim for achievement against measures or outside expectations.
    >Extraversion is characterized by positive emotions, surgency, and the tendency to seek out stimulation and the company of others.
    >Agreeableness is a tendency to be compassionate and cooperative rather than suspicious and antagonistic towards others.

It just completely boggles my mind that supposedly intelligent, educated people can go their entire lives genuinely believing in a magical sky fairy of some sort. It is fucking goddamn scary that people who believe that they're doing what god wants have the ability to start wars, hold an elected office, or are even allowed to vote.

I look forward to the day when people who believe in a god and supernatural beings are given the help they need, and the condition is treated just like schizophrenia or any other serious, dangerous dehabilitating mental disorder. Thanks for proving my point. Also, if blacks are more likely to be liberal you'd think that would drag down the average for liberals and give Conservatives the advantage? I guess not!

    Very liberal IQ = 106
    Very conservative IQ = 95

Yeah, minuscule differences. Now you'll probably pull out some spiel about how IQ tests are unreliable and there are other factors at play, such as quality of education which I agree with, but there's no way you'd apply the same standard of reasoning to a study that suggested that blacks were less intelligent than whites. You would jump all over that one.

Really? You actually believe that? Christianity was most certainly not the OWS movement of its day. To equate the bullshit with OWS is dishonest to say the least. Christianity started as some crazy dipshits claiming they were the followers of the son of god who could perform miracles. Since almost everyone in those days were gullible as fuck, they believed this bullshit. As their numbers grew, so did their influence. Once they grew to the level that Constantine turned Christian, it's persecution like a motherfucker and continues to this day. Did you know that homosexuality was openly accepted in Roman society under the Pagans? Same with having sex with multiple partners. They also weren't prudish fuckers damning everyone who didn't treat sex shamefully. Christianity is the religion of death. Every action is constantly about getting into heaven after you die. They live to die. We live to live.

You shouldn't be deciding shit for the whole if you believe in fairy tales, we shouldn't be trusting your judgement, nor should we trust you deciding how the world works based on your retarded and unproven beliefs. Last fucking year I told them I didn't want anything for Christmas because it was a bullshit mental fantasy. But my fucking grandmother who's like 70 and is a typical Christian trying to convert me. She got me a gift card from best buy so I could get some games EVEN THOUGH I told everyone I didn't want anything. She tried to give it to me in a card with a bible verse it. A fucking bible verse.

I was so pissed, I told her in front of every one that if she wanted to believe in Jewish zombies and her cannibal cult she could but not to try to brainwash me. And I threw the card on the table. She started crying and my dad got pissed and grabbed me by the arm and told me to get my ass to my room and not come out until everyone else had left.

I take every possible opportunity to rationally break people from their religious shield of hypocrisy. If they get hostile I just ask why they so mad. Whenever me and my parents get into a discussion about religion I just blow their minds with truth and usually the conversation sidetracks somewhere so they can fell less crappy about having their shitty belief system turned upside-down.

Well they learned their lesson last year and they didn't get me anything. They didn't even ask me to come with them to my uncles this year so I got the house all to myself. Weed and my xbox is all I need. Feels good to be atheist and have a clear head.

Whenever I hear people trying to say theists aren't insane, I just laugh and tell them that's a logical impossibility. You cannot balance a belief in fairy tales with reality. You cannot have any irrational belief, and still say you are a rational person. It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. And that's what theists do, everyday.

What's to stop them from believing in other things without evidence, as they do their fairy tales? Absolutely nothing, for they've already proven that they have no grasp of reality whatsoever. They are, quite essentially, insane and unstable people (if you can even call them people, and not mindless beasts).

Let us all wait for the inevitable glorious day when theism finally becomes extinct.

My atheism started when as a kid I kept coming up with these scholastic arguments for god's existence and they just kept falling apart.

I was so sad that my parents spend their lives believing we will all meet after death and be all happy and that when they die I will never again meet them.

    >Dude.. Christmas is a cover-up of YULE. Take the gifts man. There is not ONE holiday that is original to Christianity. They plagiarized everything. Most of it being stolen for the Pagans, and the Pagans were awesome.

There was no single group called "the Pagans", and they were not stolen. "The Pagans" is just a catch-all term to refer to non-Abrahamic religions, and most early Christians were Pagan converts (moreso than Jewish converts). That's WHERE the crossover happens--"the Pagans" simply converted and brought some of their older practices over with them.

Also most Christian holidays are original to Christianity--depending on where you live, you might get some cultural traditions mixed in. The Yule log, for example, has pre-Christian roots. So do general ideas like "gifts".

Without them trying to convert you? Yeah, I call massive bullshit on that. I'm an atheist. I live with a former minister, roomate. Do you know why we can be in the same household? Because I showed him I know more about religion than he does. I also showed that what he believes is completely irrational bullshit. His defense to this is "I have to believe it" clearly indicating his fear of death and the invisible boogeyman. He is now in college to pursue a degree in elementary education, specifically biology. He knows I know more than he does so the conversation of religion isn't brought up anymore. Most Christians will not shut the fuck up when you prove them wrong. My example is the exception, not the rule.

I knew I was doing the right thing when I became a Sunday School teacher. I was an atheist, but I lied enough that they actually thought I was Christian. I guess being an atheist, I knew more about religion then they did. The priest was also a very good friend of mine.

Seeing the children be so blinded by superstition was depressing, indeed. But I managed to subvert the church from within, and eventually educated them all towards the truth that is atheism. I was also speaking to my priest friend, putting in little hints of reality into our conversations. He eventually deconverted, left the church, and began to live an honest secular life.

The church eventually became abandoned with the community itself becoming atheist over time, and it put a tear of joy to my eye.

The thing I hate the most about this "New Atheism" movement is that the majority of these "New Atheists" are poorly educated neckbeards who are just repeating the same thing their preacher (Dawkins, Hitchens...) told them.

As a real atheist, I am offended by these people who consider themselves my equals.
