America is too large and it would be inefficient.

Instead each state or perhaps county should be required to provide health care for its district or area or whatever..

Do you understand how Singapore's health system works?

That people still get money from the government which is put into a high interest savings account(which they cant spend on anything but healthcare, they can however top this money up)
certain medical procedures or incidents (for example a heart attack or a car accident) are classed as a catastrophic healthcare requirement and the government pays for that outright.

The only difference between Singapore and a true socialised medical service is that in Singapore the government does not provide the service
they however still pay for it

Only an idiot would use the Singapore healthcare system as a reason socialised medicine sucks

Yes, I know there is a lot of government involvement in Singapore healthcare. I was simply using it as an example of a system which is not socialised, and is actually the best. There is a market in Singapore, and that's why it has ended up so cheap and high quality. It could be argued that Singapore is more private than the US, so if we are arguing for privatised healthcare, Singapore would be the go-to best example.

You'd prefer to not have the ability to go to the ER, right?

But seriously, I could go to my accident and emergency (that's English for "emergency room") department right now. If I had a serious ailment, I could get a free ambulance there and be treated immediately.

If you went there with your mild case of rectal tenderness, you're right that you'd have to wait – but that's called a triage system. Somebody with a heart attack or stroke is obviously going to be seen and treated before someone with a sore bottom.

You could also choose to make an appointment with the general practitioner (family/local doctor) you've registered with, who'd probably see you on Monday. He or she would likely give you a prescription for your rectal tenderness. If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you'd even get the medicine for free.

    God save the NHS!

    But no

Singapore is an example of mixing the public and private sector but its not an example of the success of the private sector.
That money the government provides to its citizens and the "catastrophic" treatments it pays for does not come from nowhere, it comes from taxes.
The government is also heavily involved with the medical private sector stopping people from charging to much for drugs/treatment/etc to make sure that its citizens can get the best bang for their buck
Singapore is closer to socialised medicine then it is to private

And also in regards to costs the UK NHS is cheaper then the US healthcare system and we also are (according to the WHO) Healthier people. The only reason why we have issues with funding is because when the governments broke the country still needs healthcare. In the US when a person cant afford their insurance well healthcare is not really important is it?

    Confirmed for troll.

The US army is by far the strongest in the world. By far. We could crush anyone else in any arena. The problem is that we don't want collateral damage and our current enemies don't care.

The US army doesn't kill civilians. Occasionally they get caught in a crossfire. That's horrible, but doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of civilian kills come from Al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda is probably misspelled. Autocorrect is being a douche.

You have people denied medical coverage because they're too old.
You can't get sufficient care for transplants if you don't meet a very narrow criteria.
Taxes are insanely higher in Europe to pay for this.

If you want socialized healthcare in america and you want 50% of your income to go to taxes, and you want to be told you're on your own for any expensive care or emergency surgery after you turn 60 then by all means go with the European system.

    Simple, because America is "free."

Regardless, the health care system would have to be paid for. However, the fundamental difference between socialized medicine and privatized is simple: socialized medicine takes care of people who do not pay into the system, whereas privatized does not. Privatized does not "steal" extra money from people who can afford to pay the premiums to take care of people who cannot afford.

    Socialism encourages laziness, unfortunately.

In the U.S. we see it as the right of anyone to freely publish and distribute information.

In the U.S., I am using my right to freedom of the press right now. The rest of the world would not consider this to be such.
