    Let us discuss VATs.

Personally, I can see how they would be a helpful tool in raising revenues as long as the rate was kept very low - in the range about 1-3%. However, it seems like having retardedly high European or Canadian style rates is foolish as it discourages consumption and slows the economy.

Why would honestly buy a new shirt or computer if the price were going to be jacked up by an additional 15%?

LOL - when you could have contributed something but instead just mock yourself.

But wouldn't a high VAT prevent people from making frivolous purchases, resulting in a higher savings rate making families and individuals more secure? And wouldn't it also make people purchase higher quality goods, rather than taking any old cheap piece of shit from China?

How does a value added tax add value to our government and our quality of life?

    Vat tax: 0
    no vat tax: over 9000

Why would they raise revenue instead of cutting spending?

Reduced spending is of course a crucial part of the equation, but still we need a way of making sure roads are maintain and firefighters get paid.
