I think that's what OP is referring to. Which is a bias, granted, but I think the right-wing republican radicals are a much bigger population than far left-wing democrats. If you think that republicans and democrats are reflected around the center aisle evenly, look anywhere else in the world and you'll be proven wrong. Democratic party in Europe would be very moderate, nearly conservative in fact. Though I do think there are many apathetic democrats, and the party has its problems as well.
