Long story short ID passes itself off as a "movement" of scientists who, through scientific processes, came to the conclusion that the Book of Genesis explains many things ranging from stellar formation to human evolution (or lack thereof) better than actual science. Many of them pretend to still not be Christians. It's of course all a highly funded and well-orchestrated farce, as while there are certainly legitimate scientists who believe in God or gods, the idea that every species or genus was made fully formed by an immortal wizard 6,000 years ago is as scientific as the hypothesis that the world is hollow and we actually exist on the interior of Hulk Hogan's left testicle.
