The attitude of /p/ is about 'tough love' and I get that, but I can't help but feel like it's more about stroking your own ego and refusing to admit that the 'snapshit' you're hating on actually has a semblance of merit in it.

The stuff about noise and straight horizons are annoying in particular because they just scream with "I had nothing bad to say about this photo, it's actually pretty nice looking, so I'm going to say something so I can say it has a flaw and it's not perfect, instead of admitting the shot was pretty well executed". Centering a shot comes with practice, but grain is more often than not a limit of the camera's sensor, not the photographer himself. Sometimes you just can't expose longer at 100 ISO to get the shot you want so it has to be a little noisy.

The stuff about styles I seriously agree with. I love how many comments on here are about "boring" shots. I get it, the cliche stuff like flowers and sunset shillouttes and yada-yada, but when those are well done, I see no reason to hate on them. Why? Because when they're done right, the 'stage 4' photos like sunsets and flowers and otherwise "crutch scenes", when executed well, are pleasing to look at. Not groundbreaking, but they're nice to look at, and IMHO if I *enjoy* viewing a photo, it's a positive thing in my eyes. I certainly wouldn't fill up my portfolio with generic shots like that, but sometimes I take them for myself and share them with others because I know other people will appreciate them even though they're done to death.

Lastly, I see a lot of comments on here bashing street photography. Seriously, what's up with that? IMHO, it's a pretty cool genre. I particularly like it because you never end up with the same thing twice. No two shots are ever entirely the same, but street photography offers up enough shooting opportunities for a lifetime.
