Just bought a D3x at a bargain price of under £2k with a shutter count of 44k and 8/10 body condition.
>>
>>1845289
>44k
Enjoy having it fail at 45.
>>
>>1845289
That is cheap.
>>
>>1845362
He'd probably enjoy Nikon replacing it for free, out of warranty period or not.

Jellyfag
>>
Just ordered a 50D for 600$ with 12k on the shutter + a tripod and carry case.
Did I do good?
>>
>>1845386
>50D
>600$

Why? For photograph an SLR would be better and for video a 600D.
>>
>>1845367
Yeah. Ive been looking longingly at the D3 series for a while now. The size and ergonomics of them is just perfect for me. Had a play around with one last year and knew it was what I wanted.
So I couldn't resist it for that price.
>>
>>1845388
>implying a 50D isn't an SLR
>implying he's bothered about video if he bought a camera without video

Derp
>>
>>1845388
I paid £350 for a 50D with 13k on the shutter but completely mint body fully boxed etc etc.
>>
>>1845397
Only about 30 euro more than what I paid though, But damn would I like a brand new 50D.
>>
>>1845388

do you mean film?
>>
Got some batteries for my Rebel 2000.
>>
An EOS 500 for £5 delivered.
>>
I bought a 58mm F/2 Helios 44-2. Enjoying it immensely.

The pictures have a completely different feeling to them compared to my modern lenses
>>
>>1845593
Are you me? I got mine about week ago from (the) Ukraine. My adapter is a bit messed up, and I think the focus confirmation chip isn't lined up properly, because I have to put pressure on the barrel to keep it in focus mode, rather than just reading as an un-chipped adapter. I think I really like the lens though. it's a lot sharper than I expected it to be, even at f/2. Makes me wish I could justify getting the 85 also, but it's a LOT more expensive, and I already have a canon 85 1.8.

I'd post a photo taken with it, except the only one I've taken so far that wasn't just me testing focus, I've posted already. Can't wait to take it out into the woods for a portrait shoot though!

I am more of a collector of antiques than a photographer, which is mostly why I got the lens. It's a Russian made early 44-2. Very nice condition and looks great.

I only got my adapter earlier today so I haven't been able to take much with it either as I had to go for sleep for work. I did snap a couple at home to see how it works, though.

Light metering is a bit wonky but out of focus areas have a nice feel to them. Way nicer than anything else I have.

also how do I fill this thing out?
Want do they mean with Diafilm?

[EXIF data available. Click here to show/hide.]

Germany. The weird thing was that the price tag on the shelf said 4,35€ but then at the checkout they only charged 2,15€ for it.
>>
>>1845664
You'll want to electrocute yourself to death after using it for a week if it's as bad (operationally) as the DP1 and all the other versions.

Good luck nonetheless, they are capable of producing some great files.

Its when the glass sandwiching the mirror surface in a catadioptric separate, it makes microscopic ripples in the metal, is beautiful, very small, and fucks up your image in just enough situations that it renders the lens somewhere between annoying to useless.

well it depends if you ask me. Even though I have rather big hands, I'm more of a fan of smaller cameras because they're lighter in most cases. The K5 is the perfect compromise between quality, size, weight and functionality.
Maybe I'm gonna get the battery grip soon so I'll have a backup option in case I need some more space for my Hands.

Other than that, the build quality of the K5 is just amazing.

Assuming I get refunded, nothing lost. And now I know it's a common issue. I feel bad now; for assuming the guy who cleaned my identical lens with the same issue a few years back had damaged it. Now it seems far more likely it's just a natural thing with those particular lenses.

Put a grip on it and its instantly perfect for big hands. But you do get used to holding it with only a small hand contact area without one.
The 3rd party ones that have the two *metal* alignment pins on top are suspiciously identical to the branded ones, and ~1/4 the price even with 2 batteries and a charger as extras.

Portra 800? Why? So overpriced. Just get 400 and push, smaller grain and its half the price?
>>
What is the general consensus on the Sony Alpha A330 + 18-55mm kit lens?

Might be able to pick on up for €200.

I'm in Japan with no camera, wft am I doing time to re-think life.

A quick run to Akihabara results in this being one of a few cameras that I could both change the system setting to English and not be crazy stupid Japan expensive.

I will say the 32GB SD card for about $17 was damn clutch.
>>

I actually never tried pushing/pulling film. How are the results?
>>
>>1848549
I like the 35mm but I take the 18-200mm VRII I don't have the 85mm but its on my short list. The 12-24mm is first on that list the 85mm is second for my D5100.

As for my Full Frame setup, the 50mm 1.4g and 24-85mm are all I have for my D600. I sold all of my FX gear to Afford the D600 2 months ago when it first came out, Except for the nifty fifty.

>I actually never tried pushing/pulling film. How are the results?
You can underexpose the new Portra 400 1 stop (exposing it at ISO800), not push in development at all, and it will be more than fine. Actually, at 1 stop, you'll barely notice the difference. You can even get useable shots exposing at ISO1600 (no pushing).
I would push Portra only when if I needed to expose at ISO3200 or higher.

Generally, pushing negatives increases contrast, you get better midtones than if you hadn't pushed and just underexposed, and very marginally better shadows.

Pushing slides, it depends on the film. Provia 400X is amazing in that respect, that you can push to ISO1600 with almost no change in contrast and grain, and no colour shifts. It also pushes to ISO3200 with minimal changes.
Slides get weird colour shifts when pushing (each dye layer responds differently to increased dev times). Negatives do that too (most commonly, they get yellowish in the highlights and blueish in the shadows), but it's easier to correct.

Anyway, what I do is:
- ISO800: Portra 400, no push in dev
- ISO1600: Provia 400X push2, or Portra 400, no push, or Push1 if light was flat
- ISO3200: Provia400X push3, or Portra 400, push2

And when exposing negatives at higher ISO than the box speed, alway try to overexpose when the light allows, even when pushing in dev.
(Do *not* do that with slides though).

90% of camera brands are in japan. Stuff is cheaper there. If they're ripping you off it's because you're a tourist.

Didn't think I should shit up your own board with my own thread, so:

Could someone recommend a decent camera for me? I wan't something better than the compact I have at the moment, but I certainly don't need anything close to high end.

I'd just be using it to take photos of family/friends, but I want something of decent quality. Preferably under $300, but if going above will make a huge difference to quality, I'm willing to go up.

I usually never buy anything but lately i've been buying a lot of photography related stuff.

-Xrite i1 Diplay calibrator.. Apparently my 27" iMac screen did not need much calibration, but i guess it's good to be sure.

-Westcott 43" collapsible umbrella kit.. It seems nice. it's my first real (not DIY) lighting modifier.

-Canon Speedlite EX430 II ..Replacement for a piece of crap YongNuo flash that broke down.

-TTL sync cable.. Wireless TTL triggers are too expensive and I have manual wireless "poverty wizards" already. I wanted to get into some ETTL action with my Canon and 1/4000s sync stuff with my Fuji x100.

-Some discount photo books.. Magnum stories, Magnum degrees, Street photography now.. All pretty good.

It's kind of funny because i have all this new, cool stuff now, but my motivation to actually take photos or "make art" has never been lower. For the past few months i just haven't been able to see anything worth photographing. Usually i take pictures almost every day. Maybe it's depression because it's so dark here in the arctic where i live.
>>
>>1853321

It seems like /p/ respects entry level cameras for people who are learning photography, but seem to hate semi-pro crop sensor cameras. I personally plan on jumping straight from entry level to full frame once either my first camera is worn out, or when I deserve it (and can afford it of course).

I just got a mini-fridge last week, so over the weekend I ordered 10 rolls of ektar 100, 5 rolls of tri-X 400, 3 packs of 4-count superia 800 and 200, and some individual films to try out (portra 400, pro 400H, and sfx 200). Next paycheck I'm gonna stock up on more, and try to get my hands on some superia venus 800.

Not to threadjack, but can anybody give me any advice as a new DSLR owner? Any maintenance and storage type advice for someone who has never owned a camera like this would be taken to heart and appreciated.

Anything I should keep in mind when holding it or storing it or shooting in general?
