I find this photograph to be rather interesting. I like to look at the drops of water as people. People ready to begin their lives at any moment. But further down the pole the peoples lives are obscured by drugs and alcohol, and their fates are blurred into oblivion.

totally agree man. The image noise represents how we can never really see clearly in life. The lack of tripod implies some form of instablitiy. The artistic shallow dof represents how quickly our lives go out of focus.

    So fucking deep.
Just give the man a job at national geographic right now.

Personally I think the DOF is way too shallow. Bump it up to around f/8.

/p/ is a little frustrated today, eh?
don't mind them op. you'll get used to it.

anyway, op, your shot is boring as hell. the main reason you're being trolled is that trolls think you are trolling them with bad images so they troll you in return, just in case you aren't, in fact, a troll.

buy a book on basic photography, read up camera technicalities and composition rules. don't worry, we all started like that.

post the others we'll see if there's anything salvagable.

Better but still boring. Too dark, too flat.

What lens are you using, btw?

Ignore the troll. We can't really determine how good your pix are unless they are at least 5000px on the short side.

dull colors, bad crop, whites are blown and blacks are crushed.

one of main reasons lies here:
    >exposure mode: full auto

you have to learn manual controlls to get better than that

Okay here's an example of a shot where a shallow depth of field is appropriate.

However, some suggestions (which do not have to be followed)
-Illuminate the lamp. Both with a torch (out of frame) and by placing a lit candle inside it.
-Show what the lamp is hanging from
-Show a bit more of what's on and around the wall to the right, or get rid of the wall entirely.
-Implicate the Fibonacci Spiral. This would work especially well if there is a lit candle inside.
-Use a background where the bokeh is more distinct. Here, the circles in the trees are not very distinguishable.

in fact it is useful, as it shows common pitfalls we can esily point out.

fill the frame with your subject, but don't crop parts of it. would have been better if all of the head was in frame.
Lit your subject. you were in a controlled environment. photography is made of light, more is better. get a table lamp straight in his face, then shoot. in this case even a hint of fill flash would have been good.
also exposure time 1/125s, ISO 400. you could have avoided some noise by increasing available light or reducing shutter speed. alas, longer exposure could have motion blur, so see previous point.
learn to use basic postproduction tools, photoshop, lightroom, hell even picasa will do for now.

if you didn't understand any of the things i said read this toroughly

    also, you didn't resize

This actually is a good shot, although the tones are a little flat. Shoot RAW, edit RAW.

also you shoot digital, so do at least 3-4 shots of the same subject and save the one that's best.
