The reason /p/ is 90% gear, apart from the fact /p/ loves gear, is because of the recent photo thread.
Everyone who's taken any photos they deem half decent posts in there, and as a result confine all the possible new threads to one.
If each poster started a new thread for their photos and self bumped once or twice then the gear to photo thread ratio would even out drastically.

/p/ has pointed out errors in my photographs, it has suggested crops and explained terms to me which google couldnt. It has introduced me to how apertures work and how different ISOs look with different cameras/films. It suggested the best camera to buy and it was right. It has linked me to dozens of different photography websites, and shown me dozens of excellent photos. It has its shit days like every other board, but it still serves its purpose better than most of them.
