Hey /p/, what happens to film that is exposed to x-ray? Jost got into film photography, and on the rolls it says "protect from heat and x-ray". Will my film get damaged from x-rays at airports?
EXIF data available. Click here to show/hide.

    It explodes.

No for carry-on scanners, yes for checked baggage scanners.

No don't listen to these people, pretty much 99% of airports not in third world countries updated their x-rays years ago and those models don't harm film, in or out of your camera - you'll be fine

I've had some film that got x-rayed at airports in 3 countries a total of a dozen or fifteen times, and if there was any side effect at all, it would have to be a slight increase in grain. No banding, no weird fogging, not even a discernible increase in base fog. And this includes film going through weird, barely-post-Soviet-era x-ray machines in China and Mongolia. YMMV, but I've not had a problem.

As noted above, though, checked baggage is another story. Don't check your film.

Really? I posted the comment above you Warren and I've checked in baggage with both finished and unshot films in and they've both been fine. Maybe because yours went through so many times, mine only 4

    Thanks /p/

It also depends on the speed of the film. Just like fast film deteriorates more severely from heat, fast film is more affected by x-rays. So while some people claim to have no problems with xrays, you're still at risk when you're carrying some delta 3200 for example.
You should still be able to buy tinfoil bags for your film at proper photostores if you want to be sure that it doesn't go bad.

it fogs up if you're using high speed film, only when maybe scanned dozens of times though
