    7/7 bombings - London 2005.

I don't have a picture to post, but I was once shooting a track event, and got some crazy shots of a really catastrophic wreck.

I learned later that day that the guy in one of the cars had been near-instantly killed in that wreck. I immediately formatted the whole CF card. The pictures are gone, but knowing that I captured the moments of some poor guy's death kinda bugs me now and then.

It just wasn't right. I was there for the hell of it, not on assignment or anything, so I could afford to throw the pics on that card away. As for the actual death, yeah, I probably could've sold those shots, but the money's just not enough for how fucked up it'd be. I'll sell pics of a catastrophic event if it's world changing, sure, but when it's some poor bastards in a Porsche and a Ferrari (I just dug up the old story, I guess both drivers were killed) getting killed during a pit exit, it's in too bad of taste.

Nobody but blogs would've run the damn pics, anyway. All the big papers have policies against running pictures that show deaths actually happening, except in extreme circumstances (9/11, etc), so I couldn't really have gotten any decent amount for the shots.

I don't know, I'm kinda superstitious, and I just felt like the whole day was tainted, like keeping it would've been really bad luck or something. I'm a racer myself, and I was there because I knew guys who were out there that day, and I'd met the two who were killed earlier that morning.

If it were a professional event, where the accident would've been worldwide news, sure, I probably would have done something with the pics, but when it was an amateur event, and the guys involved were friends of some of the people I knew, it felt really fucked up, and I didn't want to be the guy who made shit worse for their friends and widows by plastering pictures of it all over the place.

    >All the big papers have policies against running pictures that show deaths actually happening

This policy is just as silly as people bitching at the OP for deleting those photos.

An instinctive, almost involutary pulling back from something, eliminating photos that you feel are insubstantial compared to the event or that, as a result of adrenaline or unawareness, show no recognition of its gravity is one thing. Perfectly human. Possibly even right.

A specific policy not to run photos of people dying is just comfortable, pussy squeamishness. Especially if it's an "unless it's big shit going down," so convenient to the paper financially and the careers of everyone involved, and I'm sure no less painful to the people who knew the people dying in that 1/125th.

And anyway, I think showing someone's corpse is more likely to be more disrespectful (generalizing here is bad, but if we're going to do it, I might as well generalize a correct statement) than photos of them dying. A death is a moment, an important one, with a story to it, a meaning-imbuing narrative. Pic related. A corpse is just a corpse; photographing it laying there with nothing happening but it is so much more voyeuristic.

That car in that picture. I own that car.

But this picture....this picture was taken 2-3 years before I bought the car. I never really paid attention to this snapshot or had any interest in Z cars before.

But somehow without realizing it 2-3 years later I ended up buying the same exact car, same year, same color, about 30 miles from that location.

Pretty freaky coincidence in my opinion.

I'd say the chances of finding two 1986 300zx's with the same color, wheels, etc. within a 30 mile radius is unlikely. It's more plausible, the guy driving it in that pic sold it to a dealership, and then I bought said car.

    oOoh controversial.

Admittedly one of the coppers did empty an entire magazine into the face of Menezes.

Somehow though, i can see how that might happen... you are chasing a suspected terrorist, after a bombing, and he runs ONTO a train, without stopping. You only have one chance to stop him, and he could turn you into mince.

You are full of adrenaline, you've just run down two flights of escalators screaming at the top of your lungs, with a flak vest on.

Lets face it, as he spins around, no matter how innocent he looks, hes done.
