As promised, here are all of the e-mails he has sent me over the years (and my responses).

he's shooting with live view? flash in daylight?
    >> Anonymous 03/20/10(Sat)08:27 No.741192
Oh, are we sharing stories about people with DSLRs who have no reason to have them?

I saw Pfizer Fantasia a few months ago - it's this musical horse exhibition, you guys probably don't care - I saw this girl a few rows in front of my pull out a Sony DSLR with the kit lens, turns it on and immediately went to Live View, and since it's on Auto it popped up the flash. The action was a good 200+ feet away.

More recently, at an art show, I saw a guy with a 40D. He was taking pictures of the "art" in auto mode, which caused the pop-up flash to go off, and since all the stuff was framed, I'm sure he got some nice pictures of his flash reflecting off the glass.

this used to be standard behaviour with film SLRs. The only reason you think it's different is because you're a kid who never saw mass film SLRs in use.

    newfags!

using (even that crap built-in) flash in daylight can be really efficient when shooting against the light.

also he could be using live view to double check his focus with that 10x magnification thing. it's really helpful especially if your lens has autofocus issues.

everyone has their own way of shooting and yours is not necessarily better than that guy's in op's pic. the photo he's taking in that shot might be better and more interesting than anything you (or i) have ever taken.
    >> Anonymous 03/20/10(Sat)09:03 No.741223
I only know how it makes the camera manufacturers feel:

    cha-CHING!!!$$$

/p/ is probably too young to realize that during the early 1990s the 35mm film SLR industry was dying. Nobody was buying enough of 'em to make it profitable.

Now, all the people who used to buy P&S cameras are buying d$LR$.

    $o, Japan velly, velly happy.

As if he could be focusing manually, he doesn't even have his hand on the lens.

    >the photo he's taking in that shot might be better and more interesting than anything you (or i) have ever taken.
Seems unlikely, since by looking, I'd say he's probably taking a picture of the guy who's taking his picture.
    >everyone has their own way of shooting and yours is not necessarily better than that guy's in op's pic.
One of the reasons people warn against using live view for normal shooting on DSLRs is because camera shake is much worse when you hold the camera out from your body as opposed to up to your eye.
    >> Anonymous 03/20/10(Sat)09:31 No.741245
Has no one noticed his finger isn't on the shutter release? It's on the front dial so presumabley he's changing some settings, the lower end Canons don't have the top screen so he'll have to look at the rear screen instead.

Not all of them. Plus if you're changing a lot of settings it would make sense to bring the camera away from your face.

whats wrong with him? because he uses live-view?? using viewfinder with glasses is much more of work and more complicated than just going with live view.

    >> Anonymous 03/20/10(Sat)12:51 No.741364

One hand, obviously on the shutter release, and the other holding the lens. Yeah that lens, it has mass. By not holding it the lens can and will tilt your camera effectively just adding to the camera shake.

people shouldnt need a reason to own a DLSR other then "I want a camera"
They dont need to justify their purchase by taking amazing photos or using it in manual all the time.
I hate this mentality of lol only pro's and good photographers should have a DSLR no one else should. You get it with musicians hey that guy cant even play guitar yet he has a £3000 gibson!
If people want to spend alot of money on something which they wont use much or wont be able to use properly thats their decision stop being so butthurt over it.
