What is your favourite compact camera and why?

I'm in need for a new camera to have in my jacket pocket and I want some intel in a market that is totally unknown to me. I've handled excellent compacts and useless ones, and on paper I have no clue how to distinguish one from another.

Well what the hell are you going to do with it? It's fine and all to say you want a compact, but what are you looking for? Top level image-quality and sharpness, a big fucking zoom range, waterproofing, what?

i like these... if you are dropping it in your pocket, the lenses that extend out usually fail at some point. the fuji cameras still offer a 3x optical zoom, but it is internal and not prone to being squished, getting dirt in it and no longer functioning

Olympus XA. One of the smallest cameras that give you total control over your exposure settings. (It's aperature priority automatic, but it tells you what your shutter speed is before you press the button. You could consider it manual if you know how to make use of changing the ASA setting and the backlighting switch.)

Played with a friends S90, want one bad, currently using a shitty Olympus 550WP that I got just because it was cheap and waterproof.

Compacts are good if you dont get the Touchscreen and old ones.

I like my sony T70, it's what I want in a P+S, easy to carry, takes crisp pictures, and gets bitches.
The fact that I got it on clearance at work for $80 makes it more awesome.

Well, that's how I felt before I sold it off anyway, I kick myself in the ass daily.

S90 is too expensive for a point and shoot. I'll invest my money in DSLR glass, and try to avoid paying more than $150 for a point and shoot.

If it hasn't already been said, get that indestructible olympus one, cant remember the name of it but its 10 meters water resist and crush proof(what ever that means)
They are pretty fast to take a photo so long as the battery has enough power, other wise its just and expensice alluminium brick then.

It is expensive yes but by god it's good for the size and functionality. I may even get one of those little anodized metal addon grips for it as it's the only thing that bothers me (I have butter fingers).

    Cybershot DSC-N2.
Although the camera would be un usable if the screen went out, I love the touchscreen. Also, it was my first cam, and I learned (allegedly) how to do manual with it.
P&Ss in general are all nice for at least one reason: The convenience of them encourages you to take the everywhere with you.
