could you explain your technique ?

also, these makes me depressed . stuck on this planet
>>
the lens was focused out to infinity. any moving of the tripod fucks up the images when you stack them, thats what happened.
>>
usually i'll take around 200 30 second exposures and stack them using starstax
>>
>>1782344
how long is your typical exposure ?

am i seeing alot of air traffic ?>>1782337
>>
>>1782340
really wish the window sticker wasnt there
>>
>>1782344
>the lens was focused out to infinity
No it wasn't

If it was focused on infinity, you could around with the camera all you want and the stars would still be in focus
>>
>>1782347
or satellites
>>
yeah ahah i wish the sticker wasn't there either, and the planes. i'll edit those out
>>
>>1782350
yaah the stars may look outta focus because i was using ISO 1250. the lense was a Rokinon 8mm fisheye so the focus ring hardly does shit anyway

lol wut
>>
>>1782357
ahah, like the stars look less acute because the camera is more sensitive to their light. i think?
>>
>>1782360
No, trust me, it's just terribly out of focus.
Assuming your camera has live view, just take a peek with it zoomed all the way in and adjust the focus before you start shooting.

I like that last shot, the tree shadows look pretty cool on the house
>>
>>1782365
thanks! aah yeah great idea.
>>
never done this but from what i've read, once you see one you seen them all, so a subject on the front will make for a more interesting pic. but if you are just starting to get the hang of it, it's good. after that, use a subject you can expose with a flashlight in the front.
>>
good pics, but you REALLY need to focus, also you have a lot of shake -> set the camera up on the tripod, then use remote.
>>
there are no stars in my area, i am jelly :(
>>
>>1782415
don't worry bro i feel your pain
i live near an airport. that thing throws up light pollution like no one's business

very nice, but how are the stars not streaking with a 30 second exposure? Also your exif says ISO 400 f/5.6..

Definitely use Deep Sky Stacker
Shoot RAW

Here's the galactic core region
M6 and M7 on the bottom, Lagoon and Trifid nebulae on top

I posted these on the last astrophotography thread a while ago.

I'm a total noob into this, however, I want to learn how to take those type of pictures on my Sony A37 equipped with a 18-55 mm, does anybody have a clue on how I can do that?

>>

are you serious?
You cant just post pure lightpolution w/o anything.
Advice: Get out of the city, get a wide angle lense with at least f2.8.
Come back.

Yeah I apologise about that. It was my first time trying night star shots. On a serious note: I'll be more serious next time.
Once again I apologise.

shooting stars with the D80 and 18-135

Iso 400 max (Iso 200 is what I used to do)
F3.5
18mm
30"
5-10 shots stacked with deepsky

Works pretty good for what it is.

oh btw that is for still stars.

For star trails the settings are different.

I'd do this.
Get a cabled remote.
And a tripod
Iso 100
F11
18mm
240" on a cheap remote you have to hold the button and time it yourself. On a good one it has a timer built in.
Stack 30 shots you will have to do some post processing because the D80 has amp glow.

>>
Does anyone have tips on how to do this with film?
Camera is an RB67 if that helps
>>
>>1786278
Look up reciprocity failure. Other than that it's pretty much the same as digital.
>>
Why shoot so wide open for these kinds of shots?
>>
>>1786324
because you still need some light to make bright trails
>>
>>1786328
but you need a large depth of field, so its sharp. so therefore you need to use slightly higher isos and longer shutter speeds. using a wider aperture is just going to make the stars look out of focus.

hyperfocal distance

>requires around 90 photos

why.jpg

Why do you need like 20 photos with your fucking lens cap on?

My iso performance is shit, so I'd guess this deep sky stacking thing would be the best option for quality photos?
