You can make your own vintage looking bag if you want.
CheaperThanDirt.com or SportsmansGuide.com often have cheap surplus ones.
Gas mask bags, bread bags, and Medic bags are more unique than standard Jack Bauer messenger bags.

Solution of salt water splashed on canvas, and dried in the sun will leave a salt stain.

Dragging through mud, then cleaning with chalk will brown the canvas making it look older.

Rubbing iron filings, or stapling steel wool to canvas, then soaking with salt solution will form rust stains.

Putting vinegar and rusted iron together in a plastic container will make a dark brown almost black dye.

I bought a Lowepro fastpack 250 last year for $90, second hand, barely used.
    It sucks.
It holds a 15" laptop. I use an 11" macbook air.
The camera section can hold my medium format bronica, my micro four thirds camera, and a few lenses, but not all. And not very well. The compartments suck. The top section, where I put normal bag stuff, is way too small. I can squeeze in a pair of headphones, but then I won't even have room for my film olympus pen.
It is still "barely used". And now I know why.

The blue bag cost me about $50. I bought it when I was in Japan. It fits my laptop very well, and comes with an insert for my camera stuff.
It fits my Bessa III medium format camera, a flash, and 2-3 lenses. My GX1 has a nice everready case now, so it's protected whenever it has the pancake prime or zoom on it. (20mm f1.7 or 14-42mm x lens)
There is plenty of space above the camera-insert for normal bag stuff. I can fit a kindle, A5 diary, A5 notebook, harddrive, headphones, wallet, GX1.
Pens, lipbalm, batteries, etc. go in an outside pocket.
The insert can be used in other backpacks, or removed entirely if I just want the blue backpack.

The Asos bag cost me about $12.
It is _very_ thin. But it is strong, I don't fear it breaking, even when full of gear.
You will need an insert though.
I can't find it on the ASOS website right now, but this one looks even better (albiet more expensive): http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Canvas-Satchel/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1874651&cid=13238&Rf-4
    00=53&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Mustard
It would do well, with a camera-bag-insert

Of course, it sucks having all that weight on one shoulder, which is why I bought the blue backpack.

Don't get a MacBook air, shitsux. Get a MacBook pro, much better for photo editing. You can also get an iMac for the same price so consider that if you don't need portability.

I plug my air into a screen when I'm at home, have a keyboard and mouse as well.
Sure, a pro could be slightly faster, but I prefer having the portability.

It's fine for photos, but for videos I'd use a desktop computer.

Bessa III? It's great, so much lighter than the Bronica.
I took it travelling and it was a very nice combo. Light digital m43 so I don't miss things, medium format film for quality shots.
And my kit is still probably lighter than a DSLR system.

One thing they don't tell you is that the electronics don't work well in the cold (anything below freezing), and since the shutter is electronic, you can't shoot unless you have power... This isn't a problem normally.

The viewfinder is fantastic, very bright and clear, it's like using a massive Leica.

I think my only problem is my hesitation to waste film.. which I plan on solving by loading up an olympus pen half-frame camera with film, and shooting with that, to get used to the "one shot per motif" thing again. Digital shooting is vastly different because you can shoot again and again.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything scanned here from my Bessa III to upload for you, but here's something from the Bronica.

As a matter of fact, asymmetrical resistance on the spine is good for you as long as you keep your spine stable and upright, also, shoulders have nothing to do with how a messenger bag rests on your torso.

People who use bags to carry around all their gear with them do not take good photos. This is a fact. It is a phase people go through when they think that if they do not have all their gear with them at all times, they will 'miss the shot'. Ironically, these people never actually take any good shots because they're always thinking about the gear in their bag and not the gear they're using.

I carry one SLR with two extra lenses and that's about it. It's not cumbersome, and I don't think my creativity is being hindered because of it because it allows me to utilize more tools for the job. In that sense, I change lenses because I know what my gear can do (and cannot do), and I know what shot I like, and I don't like.

Mind you, that I also miss a moment or two either when chimping or changing lenses, but I don't really wallow in it and go "HOLYSHIT I MISSED A SHOT FUCK MY LIFE" over myself because I know there's always tons of stuff in the future to photograph. And yes, I'm just an enthusiast.
