This is going to sound counter-intuitive, rude and snobbish, but the way I see it, the worst thing about the advent of digital photographic equipment and instant on-the-spot feedback is that it has allowed non-professionals to produce professional-looking results. You "lolstrobist" types are the worst of the lot, I'm afraid. You cost me money. You cost me jobs. Not because you are skilled, although some of you are (to varying degrees), but because you can self-correct as you go. The result here on /p/ is a board of pretty snazzy photos, but in opposition to what a previous poster stated, the image is NOT all that matters.

The problem with the advent of digidoo cameras is that now its much easier to use your own camera for the wedding rather than hire a photographer. It was always possible, its just much easier to do now.

My friends sometimes go "wow, that's such a great picture," if I show them a shot from a wedding or a party or whatever. But they never seem to make the connection between having a little bit of knowledge and a decent quality camera and getting good results. They'll happily accept my gifts just like they'll happily accept my help doing anything else. Most of the time they're even grateful. But that doesn't stop them from taking pictures at the next wedding with their cell phone and putting awful looking shots on facebook.

instagram is fun.

I use it for what it's for: the sharing of photos. They're not great pieces of art, it's just another social networking tool.

It's entirely separate from what I do with my actual cameras.
