FINALLY! I've been unbanned by 4chan, and I have learned my lesson. During the ~4 month ban, I got interested in photography. I used to use my uncle's 450D with my 50 1.8 II. But Pentax won me over when I was looking for an upgrade, and I now have a Pentax K-5 with 18-135. Recently bought just Feb 3.

Anyway, I'm gonna dump some photos for 'c&c' and I want you guys to fuck me up good.

Pentax assembles the K-5 in the Philippines.
There should be lots of Pentaxes around the place.

Anyway, who cares. Such gearfaggotry. You visit a great place for taking photos, and all you can remark upon in this thread is the camera brands you saw over there.

I can't call myself a poorfag here... A lot of people here are below the poverty line and they're everywhere. If I call myself a poorfag, what are those people who make less than 10 dollars to support 7 kids? Besides, I'm just a student.
    >>1522525
I was originally going to ship a K-5 body from America for 999 dollars. But after much research, I found a local website that sells K-5 with 18-135 for ~1400 dollars. In other words, it's K-5 (999) + 18-135 (550) for 1400 bucks.

Trust me when I say, it's really hard to find a Pentaxfag here. Why? Because Canon advertisebombs my country with CANON CANON CANON. They even have a mascot to represent CANON. Whenever I see a person with a CANON + kit lens, I have doubts that he bought it for anything but as an expensive digicam.

Did you enjoy your trip in the Philippines? I doubt it, but if not, tell me why, I'm really interested. (Don't bother if you're going to say: hookers or Filipina wives)

    >>1522541
Thank you, I find what you say is true. But most of these were impromptu, on the spot, street, so I couldn't really control the frame.

    >>1522611
It's not me. Anyway, it's true, K-5 is assembled here. But the funny thing is, just like what I said a while ago, it's rare to find Pentaxfags here.

You heard of Quiapo? Yeah, chances are, you'll get mugged there twice in a day. But there are stores there which are camera havens. And I think I contacted a store owner there that sells K-5 body w/ bundle for 58k.

Mall of Asia? There's this store called Camerahaus, it offers a K-5 w/ 18-55 for ~70k with installment I think. (bleh)

But the best deal has got to be DBGadget's. 68k for what? A K-5 AND an 18-135 (and camera bag etc). The 18-135 is way better and more expensive compared to the 18-55.

I highly recommend DBGadgets because they're the most sulit. Hehe.
    http://dbgadgets.multiply.com/photos/album/95#photo=48

You buy it through Multiply, scan an ID and the credit card, then have it delivered and received the next day.

If you're not a local, you should know that it's not easier to buy the K-5 here than anywhere else.

Remember that K-5 body can go as low as 999 dollars or ~46k in America. But retail price is usually 1300 dollars or 59k.

M42 lenses have a pin on the back that gets pushed in when the camera takes the picture. This pin closes your aperture. When using m42 lenses with an adapter, the camera can't push in this pin. A flanged adapter has a lip on the inside that always pushes this pin in. A non-flanged does not. Either way you can only use stop-down metering. If you have a lens that is only "auto" then you *must* get the flanged, otherwise you'll only be able to shoot wide open. Get the flanged adapter.

Well, I recently purchased the K-5. But my decision to buy a Pentax was months before there were so much viral marketeers here in /p/.

When my friends ask me why I bought a Pentax, I could tell them some things:
    1) pentax got way cheap
    2) im willing to suffer the near unavailability of everything pentax here
    3) the dynamic range is insane
    4) the build is great
    5) astrotracer
    6) i like green
    7) pentax deserves support
    8) k-5 has better overall image quality compared to its competition like d7000 and 7d.
    9) k-5 has near quality of full frames
    10) its just better than its competition in many ways
    11) omg, it's assembled in the philippines! Im supporting fellow workers! (i say this with a sarcastic smile because pentax has poor quality control and I think it has something do with it being from the PH.) (QC? My damn focusing screen has finger prints. I could probably go CSI on it and find who that mfker is.)

I have an inactive Flickr account.
My 500px doesn't feature all of this. It's kinda outdated too.

I'm not really motivated to post from 500px or Flickr because I don't get feedback there. I have to circlejerk there just to get robotic-like comments of how well done my photos are and shit like that. No actual criticism or help. Just circlejerkers.

I can sort of agree to that - I never got a tumblr or a 500px but Flickr is only ever mundane compliments
But I quite like being able to follow all my favourite photographers on it. This thread will 404 eventually and I'll have no way of seeing future shot from you apart from by visiting /p/ all the time and leaving it slightly up to chance. On Flickr I can just keep an eye on my "from contacts" stream and I can see new good photos every day.

4/3 if you're more into portability and not landscape. The K-R is a good buy too. If you can't afford a K-5, the K-R is nearly as capable. Use snapsort to analyse the technical capabilities ONLY. D5100 might fancy you too.

Well I always love landscape. Does that mean I should get a dSLR instead of a micro four thirds? BTW, The D5100 cost a lot more compared to the K-r.

Look, I can't tell if you'll either regret portability (4/3), or more quality, control, wideness and power (DSLR). That's all up to you. If I were in your position, I wouldn't bother with a 4/3. Because I can handle the weight and bulkiness. Also because I have an iPhone which takes better pics than my Sony W290 (babby's first photography decision).

I'm resorting to the interwebs to purchase my Pentax needs. So far, I've bought a SMC Takumar 50 1.4 for 5k. I had to meet him far away from my place, but it was worth getting this lens. (Although manual focus means I can't really do well in uncontrollable scenes, but its nice to have)

You could use oldie lenses that random people in the internet sell. Some are autofocus, some are not. Some have legendary quality, some do not. But mostly all are cheap. But if you're talking brand new and cheap, you might not like it. Might. We can discuss this further if you want.

When it comes to portraits, you should work on your framing.

    >>1523003 has a symmetric subject so it would be great if the photo itself was more symmetric as well.

    >>1523006 has too much head space and his sleeve is too close to the edge of the frame.

Basically, pay attention to the borders of your photos and don't be ashamed of cropping in post. Watch our for slightly clipped corners, fingers, sleeves/elbows, and edges or objects peeping in.

For street, grow some balls, and get close with a wide. Stop shooting people's backs and get faces in.

The bulkiness and weight might probably be a problem since I'm quite skinny but /fit/ is currently helping me with that so I guess it will not become a problem anymore.

Form over function. Be better than that.

Then I recommend that you hold your money until you've learned things about fashion and portrait photography. Research about those styles of photography, learn how to do it.

Since you intend on doing it on the streets, I suggest finding a 35mm or a 50mm lens. (These turn to ~50mm and 75mm when you apply K-R's crop factor).

Also, your preference tells me you'll want flashes. Don't use the built-in flash, it's shit. Get a cheap one if you have to. But research more about flashes before even purchasing one.

    Some tips:
I saw a photographer shooting a model in the streets one time, she was sitting around a random nice looking house that fits her costume's theme.
Natural light (sun) could be your friend or enemy, Many say an overcast is a great form of lighting.
    Learn to be a strobist.

You were too late, I don't have much tips.

Okay I'll research first. But how can I practice if I don't have a camera yet? Will my 5 year old Canon IXUS suffice?

Thanks a lot for the tips fellow flipbro.

fuck, does it even matter? A lower # obviously, don't be a douche, you know what they mean. It's an amateur photography forum.

...and you're the amateur. seriously... f-stops are wider or narrower. not higher or lower. that fucking means nothing, you understand?

A digicam? Without manual controls, you can't do much rather than simple point and shoot. It'll help you in composition though.

Yup my camera is just a compact camera from Canon. I really would want an slr but I can only afford a Pentax K-r
