Greatest Cameras of All Time... No. 25 Leica M9
Greatest Cameras of All Time... No. 24 Holga 120N

Few cameras create their own aesthetic but the Holga definitely has. It is an inexpensive, medium-format 120 film toy camera, made in China. The Holga’s low-cost construction and simple lens gives pictures that display vignetting, blur, light leaks and other distortions, all of which have led to the camera gaining a cult following.

The reason the Holga ranked higher than the M9 is that, while the M9 is much more impressive from an engineering standpoint (Even Leica didn't think that they could pull it off), the Holga is a much more accessible camera and the various sample defects and variations are embraced as part of it's character. The holga and its ilk are also responsible for the resurgance of film in the last few years, as the kids who started out with "that camera that makes retro looking shots" would later move onto "real" film cameras after outgrowing the lo-fi effects of the Holga.

In many regards, the Holga ought to be in the top 10, and I wish I was trolling.

    macfag mentality.
the electronics are practically the same on every dslr. there's a few brands of sensors and Sony makes half of them along with Panasonic, Canon and Kodak.

there's the same little intel-ARM based or MIPS chip from Xilinx, Toshiba or Motorola on all Canon, Sony, Nikon and Pentax hardware to process image. the storage chips are by Texas Instruments who makes the R/W cycles on your memory is made by Intel, TI or marvell regardless the brands. the few lcd screens are made by Samsung, Sharp and Sony. all passive components are made either by Philips, Panasonic or Kyocera...or all combined like if it matters.
now you know, comparing camera brands, it's exactly like saying macs aren't PC because you'll find the exact hardware from intel/foxconn/seagate from a macbook "pro" on a $300 HP laptop or a $500 vaio. that's the placebo effect, the more it's expensive the better you think it is.

the only thing that really makes the difference between brands are a few lenses that aren't the 18-55 stock, and software on their intel/atmel RC28F640 flash chip, which is also on your phone, car and washing machine.

nope, intel ARM chips aren't built in China and would get too expensive.

instead, Apple get them from Samsung, it's the same chip manufactured under Intel's license. the moar you know.

i don't know if it's a good or bad thing that all cameras or hardware are built under a big cloud of hardware, instead of developing their own technology. Canon does it a little but if they can make the sensors, they can make godtier OLEDs too, like they do instead of purchasing Sony or Sharp's. that's not right, i agree.

the chips are all the same, yes, but nikon and canon have different track records in repair shops, and all manufacturers are free to design the dsp differently. there are more differences than just the lens.

however there is nothing at all wrong with Sony.

Fucking piece of shit bullshiat list. The purpose of lists.

Most influential would have been interesting. This is just a pile of shit list.

Surprised they didn't add that iPhone 3 to the list or the Deep Field array on the Hubble.
