    Oh FFS.
This is what you get when there isn't a single internet-savvy person in your entire school and they woefully abbreviate Fine Art Photography to FAP. Seriously, it's goddamned everywhere.

Some guy made a thread about slide latitude. This is the only time I've really had a problem where I would have been fine had I been using negatives, which is rather lucky considering I've been shooting meterless.

Get one. It's pretty much the reason I shoot rangefinders.

    Technical information for those interested.

All the 120 was Provia 400X, pushed a stop to 800. Shot with a 'blad and the 80/2.8

All the 35mm colour was Fuji Pro 800Z, at 800. The B&W was a mix of whatever films I could scavenge, HP5, Tri-x and Neopan, at 800, 800 and 1600 respectively I think. All shot with the Voigtlander 40/1.4

I used to be a pretty big advocate of Apple, but holy shit Lion is bad. My '07 2.4 C2D under SL runs faster than this £2300 2.4 i7 piece of crap. It got to 98ºC when I was playing back a single video in quick view. Waiting on more ram to be delivered, and trying to find a way to install Snow Leopard onto it.
I've only used LR4 for about ten minutes. They seem to have gone a similar route to Lion in that the application size has jumped from 100MB to 950MB, and all they've added is video playback (but no editing), a bunch of shitty things like facebook uploading and blurb printing, and a map. The only thing of use I've found is RGB curve editing, and slightly more options in the paintbrush/graduated filter thing. Not an upgrade worth paying for.

No money for a new body and lens unfortunately, especially M mount. Not if I want to stay away for any of length of time. I might have to make do with my 45 on my Nikon and I might pick up a 75 for my Pentax 67 so I can shoot some colour a bit wider.
Your travel shots have always made me want to pick up an rf.

So I guess I did the right thing by NOT buying Lion? And also, I'm sure you're already familiar with fan control apps such as smcfancontrol? The laptop by default never spins up the fans soon enough.

Get a 35/2 AIS. That and the 40/1.4 are my two favourite lenses. Assuming you have a bit of time, shop around and if you get lucky you'll get one for ~£100.
Also, I think this is the first time I've travelled with a RF.

Are you white? I imagine being a gaijin can get you out of a lot of situations.
Also the whole thing about RFs being more stealthy is a complete myth. They're either going to notice you taking a photo or they're not. The fact that the taped-up super stealth camera in your hand is a centimetre smaller and a little bit quieter isn't going to make any difference.

Not the same poster, but being Asian myself I do see that white people can get away with more shit in Tokyo. When they start taking photos of crap, people assume it's the typical tourist. When I'm shooting, they kind of seem to notice more.

Well, not that it's always a bad thing. I've seen a couple of good smiles in my photos before. Honestly, I can't wait til I hit up Japan again during the summer.

I'll see if I have any cash spare, I've wanted the 35/2 for quite some time. But my FM2 and 45/2.8p is a god tier proportion. I might just lump it up and stop chasing silver bullets. 3 months in Asia is going to make any 35-50mm focal length work, I hope.
I don't know why I'd thought you'd taken your M4-2 with you on your Asian trip. Oh well!

Try looking into the 39th floor of Ebisu Garden Place tower. The floor is practically empty (couple of businesses there, but they don't mind) and you're free to bring in your tripod. You can shoot til night time but I'm not sure what time they close, so getting photos at dawn might not be possible.

Well, yeah you were talking about the OP, but I felt that you used it as an example to demonstrate that all the other photos shared those attributes you described.

The picture attached to >>1492757 was taken on digital, my favorite from his other thread. I like the digital version more than >>1490619

On >>1490619 the vignette centers the attention on the subject, and the contrast created by the bright light and the subject grabs the attention, but b&w doesn't do it for me.
The digital photo has a car reflection in the background, which looks cool, and I feel the lines and the reflections blend in a more natural way. Color shot is nice. I like colors.
Both shots are nice in their own way, and it doesn't matter what you shoot it with.

There's only one photo in the whole thread of a homeless person (apart from maybe that guy on the bench, but that was because of the iguana rather than any poverty he may or may not have been in) and even that photo doesn't look bad. Wealth? None of these photos show anything more wealthy than someone holding an iPhone. Also, you could go quite literally anywhere in the world and see a greater disparity between wealth. No, it's mostly applicable to babbies who just picked up their first 35mm slr and expect it to shit out art for them because of the "magic" of film. The rest of us realize there's a lot more that goes into the lighting of a shot than just the recording medium you're using. Seriously, just go back to lurking for a long time.

Why you ragin, bro? We realize that there's more to it, THAT'S WHY WE'RE FUCKING ASKING. We're doing our best to ask educated questions about the film, but you're just mad someone else is using your sacred medium that makes you special in a digital world. God forbid someone ask a question you can't answer. Fuck you. Yes I mad.

Haha. You'll realise they only seem good within the context of /p/ because /p/ is mostly beginners. If you first came across my work in any other environment you'd probably find it rather average and dull.

Um, I guess the light was just right? Metering by eye doesn't unlock any sort of secret dynamic range by getting a hidden perfect exposure. If you look at the photo you quoted the shadows are low which would suggest sunset. That would mean a lot of the light would be similar, and there is a big difference between the exposure of the seat and her face. Had the light been any harsher one probably would have been lost. You can see the highlights top left are pretty much gone too. I guess the only answer I can have is that I often look for light as much as I look for content. The fact that everything sort of comes together is because I saw/waited for that moment. Had it not I probably wouldn't have taken the photo.
Also, don't get hung up on keeping everything inside the film/sensor's dynamic range. It's often not really that important compared to getting the light right on your subject/what you want them to be interacting with.
XA guy: I dumped the only roll I shot with it on here a little while back. Don't have them anymore as they were on my old harddrive. Someone on /p/ might possibly have saved them. Some people here have rather compulsive habits.

Anyway, ram's finally arrived, so here's a couple more scans as I work through them.

Some of these are absolutely incredible. A lot are great. Most are quite good. Very few are worse than that.

Great stuff. One of the best threads on /p/ in a while.

how come everybody else gets slammed when they post shitty street photos? I guess I'm not a part of the circle jerk club or whatever

Cause they're honest to god shitty photos half the time. While film doesn't automatically turn you into a better photographer, it slows you way the fuck down since every shot literally costs you money as opposed to some kid who got his rabal for Christmas going full auto with a rabal who's too afraid to raise his camera in public or around people who don't have their backs turned.

There ARE good street threads, they're just not common.
