I was discussing this with a friend last night. Would have loved to be there. This kind of stuff never happens in my part of the UK.

Chances are/were carrying any pro kit, an invitation to severe head bashing etc:
SUN photographer Mikael Buck was beaten up and had two cameras worth £8,000 stolen by the mob.
Mikael, 29, said: "I've never felt such fear or been subjected to such hatred. I was down a side alley when protesters came out of nowhere.

"One ran up with a plank and went for one of my cameras. Another grabbed my other camera.

"Someone punched me. I fell to my knees and I was pushed and kicked in the head. It was a blur.

"As I knelt surrounded by them I thought, 'How is this going to end?' They were out of control.

"Luckily someone, I've no idea who, pulled me out and they backed off."

Shaken Mikael drove himself to hospital where he was treated along with injured cops. Amazingly he suffered just bruising.

    >taking pictures of people committing crimes

yeah, they definitely wont think i'm a undercover cop.

The criminal underclass of North London are animals. I wouldn't go there to take photos if you paid me £50k.

    i just read;

    >black people are animals. I wouldn't go there to take photos if you paid me £50k.

    guess it works either way.

the chavs are the worst. they are out to prove they are legit so they go beyond stupid to prove their not wannabes.
    >> Anonymous 08/08/11(Mon)09:03 No.1364597
Why would you risk your gear and/or your health to take pictures of a bunch of monkeys ?
    >> Anonymous 08/08/11(Mon)10:18 No.1364626
    Reasons I would not go:
There is a nasty violent atmosphere at these protests/riots. These are of a different nature when compared to the student protests where it was fairly safe to go out and take pictures.
-There is a lot of looting. People loot because they want shit for free, usually things of value. Cameras are expensive so you would essentially be seen as a walking Argos and are likely to get ur stuff stolen.
-Most photos you are seeing on the news are taken on mobile phones or they are taken by professionals behind the police riot lines. It is clearly not safe to go out and take pictures amongst the crowds because if it was other people would be doing it already.

However if i was to go i would only do it in the following circumstances:

-Take a cheap camera or at least one that looks cheap.
-Dress yourself as young hoodlum. Dont take ur normal photog outfit with your billingham bag.
-Know the area you are in well.
    -Be black or South Asian.

If I was going I would bring tripod plus telephoto lens. Try to secure yourself a rooftop and snap pictures from a distance :D
    >> Anonymous 08/08/11(Mon)17:40 No.1364992
Journalist got beat up, stamped on, and all his shit nicked. Luckily someone dragged him out before he was seriously hurt, or worse. Earlier tonight a random was taking pictures and got bottled and punched.
Think I'll sit this one out.
