If concealed carry was allowed in schools, then there would be a plummet in crime rates in schools.

If the posters on /new/ are any indication, no one should EVER be allowed to possess a gun, or a weapon of any kind.
    >> Anonymous 04/28/10(Wed)08:42 No.759164
Basically, some weapons should not be allowed to be owned by civilians. Why the fuck does the average person need a grenade launcher? (in before "to fight tyrannical gub'mint") So we should place limits on the types of weapons people can own.

On the remaining weapons, nothing is lost by making them safer. If people are going to use weapons, they should know how to use and operate them effectively, so throw in some training classes prior to purchase.

And where do criminals get them from? I would think they'd need to smuggle them in, which, while certainly not impossible, is at least highly inconvenient and unlikely to happen except in the cases of highly organized criminals. Certainly not by your average asshole who decides to rob a liquor store. And in these cases, why bother when a handgun or a shotgun is much more easily concealed and just as effective?

And tell me what kind of crime would someone commit with such an expensive, heavy and large weapon?

Not to mention every single shot would cost somewhere around 10-15$. And the one pictured here can only hold 4 rounds.

Even if grenade launchers were common they wouldn't be used in many crimes. Same reason why .50 caliber rifles have only been used in one crime, and wasn't even fired.

I'm all for people having guns, but they should be made to prove competency with a class of weapons before being allowed to carry one.

Want to have a rifle? Alright, you need to demonstrate that you are able to strip it, clean it, maintain it, and can reliably hit targets at certain arbitrary distances both stationary and moving, and again while under stress.

    Yes, for licensure.

Think of it like driver's ed: You'd sit in classes about how to properly care for and maintain a variety of guns, you'd see the gun safety version of Red Asphalt (real crowd pleaser, that one), you'd have mandatory range time, and at the end of it you take both a written and a practical test, are given your license and off you go.

ITT: total and complete ignorance of American gun laws.

New manufacture 40mm M203 grenade launchers are about $1500 plus a $200 tax stamp. They are completely legal to buy and own, no laws against ownership whatsoever.
Practice rounds are about $20 each, HE rounds are about $100 each plus a $200 tax stamp on each HE round purchased.

Point being: licensing is unnecessary for guns.

Some logical gun control is necessary, like only being able to purchase 1 handgun a month (to cut down on reselling handguns to criminals). The California assault weapon ban does nothing to stop violence and only makes it harder for responsible people to use weapons. Full auto weapons are already banned on a national level.

While I believe that it's OK for Americans to own guns, I think some guns shouldn't be availible to citizens. There is no reason for someone to own an assault weapon.

Also, gun shows should run background checks before selling guns. That's how the hijackers got their guns.

You don't need a license because you took the time to develop the skill necessary to master a firearm.

Your average suburbanite who purchases a handgun for home defense won't take it to the range, won't practice with it, and is more likely to shoot themselves or a family member than they are a violent intruder in a home defense situation.
