They're just aggregating data from the World Bank and world governments. Their methodology and raw data are public, and the indices are cited in economic journals.

    Mark Twain also said this:

The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless trouble, through the rivalry of schools and creeds that are anxious to obtain official recognition, and there is great danger that our people will lose our independence of thought and action which is the cause of much of our greatness, and sink into the helplessness of the man who expects his government to feed him when hungry, clothe him when naked, to prescribe when his child may be born and when he may die, and, in fine, to regulate every act of humanity from the cradle to the tomb, including the manner in which he may seek future admission to paradise.

I assume the middle one was supposed to direct to my question. So you approve of egalitarianism regardless of actual ability and worth as a person. My biggest problem with socialists is their social positions which are based in emotion and pandering to the proletariat rather than being pragmatic and rational.

Let's say there were a socialist uprising tomorrow. All across the country CEOs and politicians were dragged from their homes and hung from street lights for all to see by violent vigilantes. They did it on their own initiative, but within a few months a bloody coup has managed to avoid collapsing into civil war and the proles are victorious. Wat do? Politically, economically, socially, locally. Etc.

The so-called social democracies in Europe are in many ways more capitalist than the US. The US governments spends more per person on healthcare than every country in Europe other than Norway.

No. I believe in equity. Should we create a true and absolute meritocracy where EVERY individual regardless of all factors have the EXACT same opportunities to succeed, yet should some inequality continue to exist, then that is a different story. But in modern America, it's important to give these minority groups at least the illusion of being equal.

    >My biggest problem with socialists is their social positions which are based in emotion and pandering to the proletariat
A true socialist roots his belief in what is good for all-- not just the proletariat.

This is a good an often overlooked point. Another one is the fact that the US has a HUGE bureaucracy -- often 3 levels of it (Federal, State, and Local). A new small business owner has to go through all sorts of shit just to open a corner store. This is why our country is full of big boxed retail and fast food -- because they are the only ones who can afford the army of lawyers required to comply with everything.

So because we spend more money on health care, it means we are more socialist than Norway?
