    Hi /new/,
I'm sick and tired of people saying that any attack on the political implications of organized religion is an attack on 'diversity'. Religions continually rail against atheism as some sort of heathen a-moral philosophy! Can I not attack them similarly for my perception of their backwards morals and irrational beliefs?

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Eph. 5:22

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Eph. 5:24

Nevertheless let everyone of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Eph. 5:33

Also, "Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands;" I Peter 3:1a

You can attack religion, but you'll be labelled as an obnoxious atheist asshole just because you said something bad about religion. Of course someone promoting their religion and attacking other religions will just be thought of as a staunch believer. Welcome to the US of A, where being atheist is a crime.

    That's how you interpret it.
The great thing about the Bible is that it can interpreted in almost any way.

"And I permit no woman to have authority over a man"
Means no woman should have any position of power ever.

This is the Bible taken out of context. The Bible, as you should know, was written by majorly by Jewish people in Hebrew. This specific book was written by Paul and wasn't a book at all. It was a letter from Paul to Timothy who was a church leader. At that time and in that culture (and still in some Middle-eastern countries today) women weren't seen as equals. This verse is specifically referring to women not being able to teach within the Jewish synagogue, NOT in relation to being a public school teacher or in relation to keeping silent and "staying in the kitchen".

The Bible does encourage traditional marriage roles which are common in our western society but under no circumstance is it named a sin to go against those roles or does it list punishments for those who do not follow those traditional roles of man and woman in marriage. Nothing like what OP is insinuating here.

I know for a fact that the majority of you won't even read my words explaining the truth and context of this verse. Nonetheless the truth should be told.

    >>541377

No it doesn't. Context dude. It's in Timothy I in the New Testament as they are laying the groundwork for the new church as pagans were converting and bringing their practices with them.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old testament. He says this several times. All the old capital punishments are taken away.

Those laws were designed specifically to maintain the people Israel in a region surrounded by people who burned their own children alive to fire gods, and practiced other forms of human sacrifice.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/10(Mon)13:51 No.541444
Old testament has a woman prophet and queens. Not that that can be used as an excuse for women to worship their ego (not good for either gender) or for men to shirk responsibility (not good for either gender)

My biggest issue with Christfags, as a former Christfag myself, is that they will pick out shit from the Old Testament to support their hatred, but when you pull out the shit like OP did, they'll claim they only follow Jesus' teachings in the New Testament, and that the split between the books represents a split from the old laws.

Well then even more in my favor. I clearly don't give a shit anymore. What tipped me was reading the letter my old church sent out to all it's members from the Pastors and everyone, quoting Old Testament passages about why homosexuality is wrong and they're not allowed in the church.

OP's may not be from the Old Testament, but hell if there aren't plenty other quotes like it there. It being from the New Testament only adds to the bullshit.

When you look at the bible, all evidence points to a reversal of roles and everything references as god is actually satan except when god tried to evade satan by making jesus but because satan(who is known as god due to its trickery) found out, and corrupted most of the poor cast down nice god's plans. Why did "god" kill so many people? its not the "good" god you know of, the devil is the great deceiver. Even now billions kill and die in the name of the great deceiver, as it has pit people following the same "god" against eachother, corrupting all their texts.

Really, if you look at the facts of religious texts, this is the only logical solution if you believe in them AND believe that god isn't a huge prick.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/10(Mon)15:17 No.542115

It started a trend of me noticing things. I began to question why we believed some of the things we did, or why we were supposed to do other things. I'm generalizing out the ass right now, because I honestly remember none of my original reasons for turning my back on religion entirely. I just remember that the cognitive dissonance became way too large to ignore, and that I was supposed to just blindly believe.

The fact that people who I originally thought were good, kind people turned out to be hating bigots soured my tastes.

Sometimes I wish I could believe again, just because it was, honestly, a warm fuzzy feeling. But, not to be facetious, it would take a miracle for me to move past my issues.

I just say now that I go with Christian morals (10 commandments and all that jazz) rather than a Christian belief, to avoid arguments. The raging Christians usually accept that as good enough and leave me alone, when the subject arises.

So considering "god"s evil acts evil is reversing good and evil? Sounds pretty Deceiving to me.
