Canada to switch to plastic bills next year
Last Updated: Saturday, March 6, 2010 | 2:19 PM ET
    CBC News

They say money doesn't grow on trees. Well, the federal government has taken that adage to heart — it announced earlier this week that Canada's paper-cotton banknotes would be replaced by newly designed plastic ones next year.

It's part of a plan to modernize and protect Canadian currency against counterfeiting.

The new plastic bills, made from a polymer material, are harder to fake, recyclable, and two to three times more resistant to tearing, the Bank of Canada said.

    Well done canada.

You have finally decided to join the rest of the commonwealth, in adopting this far superior form of banknotes.

To bad America is way to retarded to do the same. They STILL refuse to use metric system so id say they will still be using paper notes for at least anther 50 years.

well i guess it had to start some time.
australia has been using polymer notes for more than ten years now.
it'll probably be another 10+ years before america catches on, by that time we will have a better currency system

Alot of the reasons is because people generally have an assumption of what a dollar looks and feels like. Adding ink other than green was a big change because people thought it was fake money. You change over to a different style like that, you have to get the feel for it correctly.

There is also the symbolism of an unchanging unwavering currency that signifies stability.

It was never supposed to be called "paper" money, but the fact that you had something better than a Promisory Note or Certified Promisory Note; "paper" money meant it was private, otherwise known as a Warehouse Receipt that you could withdrawal the account through endorsement to redeem or pass it on to another.

Switching to plastic means it's of no value as a Bill of Exchange drafted to any certain value, but the fact is Canaduh is actually going to begin a plastic-Standard with this as their Coinage Act.

Absolute laugh, that reflects the stupidity of Canaduh culture. Zimbabwe currency has more purpose than plastic tokens.

Most of the people on this board that hate america, but imply they don't live there. (I live here, and I hate this country.)

You do live in America, don't you? If you don't, it's strange you have nothing better to talk about.
