What is /new/'s take on unions?
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:26 No.25735
they're getting too greedy. I understand that they were once a force for good, but now they're just going too far and work only for themselves.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:27 No.25751
Unions are the leading cause of unemployment.

If they refused to switch casual Friday to Monday, the Unions will go on strike.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:30 No.25771
Reward you for doing less work. Ex-union member here, they're lazy and will stab you in the back any chance they get to make themselves look better and then try to shove that whole brother/sister shit down your throat.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:34 No.25815
Unions did much to develop the middle class as we know it today as well as lobby for Social Security, Medicare and a whole host of New Deal-1960s goodies that we take for granted. They've done much good for the working man and I still think they can. Private unionization rates have dropped to their lowest levels ever and I think that's going to threaten the wages of all working and middle class Americans across the board.

    >>25735
How are they getting too greedy?

    >>25751
True, but the spike in net human rights via voices at the workplace makes it much more worth it.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:36 No.25828
unions are designed to protect the shittiest employees and punish the employees with real merit

Ex-union and current member here. This man's experience does not represent everyone and neither does mine. I love my union because I participate in it and we have gotten some things done even in a harsh economy.

    Unions: Socialism and theft.

    That is all.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:38 No.25842
truly skilled employees don't need a union to protect them

Unions destroy the middle class. The only things responsible for creating the middle class are the middle class people themselves and capitalism.

We need more private unions. But public unions, I can understand the need for reform.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:40 No.25867
    Libertarian here.

I love unions. No, seriously. Right of free association, man.

But compulsory union membership is flat-out wrong. My state, Michigan, still has compulsory union membership, which violates one's right to free association, and is an act of pure thuggery.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)01:41 No.25868
The benefits of unions far outweigh the cons. Though of course /new/ is overrun with delusional stormfrontfags, so I don't see the point in actually debating this.

You clearly don't know about the history of labor in the United States. Read about the long history of strikes and boycotts that won you the rights you have today as a worker.

Sure they do. From truely skilled upper managment that try to screw them over.

I think unions have messed the scool system up, but they are a needed force in many industries

I never really understood why Unions are inherently a Left idea. It seems like the basic idea, an organization that you voluntarily join for collective bargaining power, is extremely pro-free market.

Now using violence and/or the law to make people join is another story, but on the surface it doesn't seem that bad. Besides that, it isn't like joining a special interest group to lobby the government is a uniquely leftist idea.

Seniority advancement is something that everyone votes on as with any line of advancement. Most people like it. That's democracy, but then again I like democracy.

Also the net anger and injustice from the rare over-qualified employee not getting promoted a year earlier in a unionized workplace weighs much less than the anger and injustice from the much larger majority of qualified employees not getting promoted in a non-unionized workplace

Neither do you, organized employees have done nothing or late worth any value at all. The day of the union is long over.

Unions are fine as long as there are no laws protecting them. But they would dissolve quickly if there weren't any laws protecting them.

Becasue unions want to force people to hire them and pay them overinflated wages.

A true free market solution is if you dont like it you work at some better place where people appriciate your work.

Unions have no understanding of economics or any sort of market whatsoever
