  • Over the past 48 hours 4chan's formspring page has gotten over 12,000 questions, and I've received over 3,000 e-mails. Many thanks to everyone who submitted a question, and sent me a message! I was able to respond to a few hundred e-mails and had hoped to start answering questions on formspring, but it seems that the number of questions broke the page. Once that's sorted out, I'll sift through them and answer as time allows. Thanks again for all of the support!

In other news, /rs/ now processes MediaFire/MegaUpload/a bunch of other links correctly (this had been broken for months). The old links should be updated in 24-48 hours. Thanks to Popcorn Mariachi for spontaneously appearing and fixing this.

Are there any Britons around who could explain the thinking behind the Job Seeker's Allowance to me?

As I understand it, it's like American unemployment assistance, except you can be on it forever, and it pays enough for you to live comfortably. All you have to do it go to a job training interview every month or something like that. What the fuck kind of incentive to find a job is that? Shouldn't you just kick them off of it at some point for being lazy moochers?

Are there really hordes of people living their entire lives on the dole? Why the hell are you okay with that?

    Sup Amerifriend,

    >As I understand it, it's like American unemployment assistance, except you can be on it forever, and it pays enough for you to live comfortably.

    Yep.

    >All you have to do it go to a job training interview every month or something like that.

All you have to do is attend an interview at a job centre every week where they ask you what jobs you applied for. Very easy system to game.

    >What the fuck kind of incentive to find a job is that? Shouldn't you just kick them off of it at some point for being lazy moochers?

Common sense would suggest that, but the UK is a socialist shithole.

    >Are there really hordes of people living their entire lives on the dole?

Yes. There are households and families where not a single member has ever worked. Entire generations are spawned where nobody works.

    >Why the hell are you okay with that?

I'm not. I've moved to Texas. Most britfags are stuck, I wish more of the productive britfags would move out of there and let the parasites feed off each other.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/10(Sun)10:51 No.244449
It is £50 a week, what sort of life you could have on that is debatable. You have to prove that you are actively seeking a job every week or you wont get the cash, how easy or hard that is is another debatable point.
Realistically there are not hordes of people on it but the media like to portray it as such( There are some places where there are more people on it some places with less)

    >200 pounds a month

Okay come the fuck on. The only thing that kind of money is doing is buying groceries.

I live in canada. When I was on welfare the most they would give me was 590 bucks a month.

350 to rent a room, 100 for utilities, 100 for groceries, and 40 for miscellaneous needs.

No one lives "comfortably" on the dole, stop being a bunch of fags over it.

Then why there still poverty and homelessness if the UK is a socialist shithole? You're implying that every Briton has a council home and income support.

Keep in mind that in Britfagistan, the unemployed also receive other types of "benefits" (yes that's what they are called). Eg in addition to the jobseekers allowance, the government will pay your rent, sometimes utility bills, and if you are "disabled" (which can mean just a sore back or obesity) you can get even more:

The UK welfare system is insanely generous. No wonder the UK economy is fucked. There's no point in working.

doesn't matter if you had government assistance or not

there's only so many good jobs to go around

most people will be poor even if they all had the best schooling and training

If you're living with parents you don't pay rent, if you don't pay rent welfare gives you <200 a month. If they give you anything at all.

Presumeably, you'd still have to buy groceries, and so on.

Yes it fucking sucks. Like the other dude said, there are entire families where no one works. The parents live off benefits, and their children will live off benefits their whole lives.

I spent a long time on the dole and I would argue in OP's defense, its only recently I luckily found work, a long time I was sharing the jobcentre queue with people who had given up on everything and were just delinquients who had no incentive to try harder.

The dole is fuck all money, its like 70 quid a week to live off, plus housing benefit will take money off you so you could be left with 63 quid. Also Americans you have to realise that you get their shit so so much cheaper than in the UK where prices AND taxes are much higher. The dole is not nice and its nicer to have money in the bank but some people dont see that and just give up.

what americans don't understand is that they pay for it in other ways

it's like the idiots who are against socializing medicine with a good single payer

they are too stupid to understand they already pay for everyone else because people without coverage go to the hospital ER for even minor issues which ends up costing everyone with higher premiums and taxes

There is no guarantee Conservatives will win the general election, and this is the exact ignorant thinking that'll be the prime factor for Labour getting another term. Do you know how many quangos and public sector services there are out there, and their employees who'll actively vote if only to keep in work? In addition to the masses who profit off of benefit schemes that will only continue under a Labour government?
    >> Anonymous 02/28/10(Sun)11:13 No.244581
With all the tax money going to waste on useless shit, I mind this the least. It's not like the deliberate "leeches" are the majority. Most people on welfare depend on it due to unfortunate circumstances, or just a plain lack of jobs, considering that, contrary to popular belief, there actually are more people than jobs.

After some ethnic housekeeping, there would no longer be more people than jobs.

The rich love flooding the country with unskilled Third World labor, because it depresses wages. It makes the citizens at the low end of the country's income scale compete for work with the world's desperate poor. It is a horrible thing to do.

It's hardly the rich who support the flux of immigrants. It's the upper middle class paying for their McMansions to be mowed, cleaned, etc. Also all the construction company owners and most small business owners are upper middle class.
