What will 4chan be like in 20 years?

Kids would be growing up being sick shits and fapping to CP.

    The future is doomed.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/10(Tue)18:48 No.210121
Doubt it. I don't CP and I'm an Ancientfag.

Not all of us turn into faggots from 4chan.

The blatantly uncouth opinions shared here and overall level of negative values the community displays are certainly indicative of a demographic that will grow to be like you described. However, one must take into consideration that users' opinions on this board are more a collective due to the anonymity aspect and that character judgement can't be very well derived due to this fact.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/10(Tue)19:01 No.210213
This site is now too well known for it's own good. It'll make a nice juicy target for someone to sue, or a politician or commentator to make hay by starting a campaign to shut it down, as has been stated.

Those o'reilly shoops are going to become a reality.

Hopefully if for some reason moot manages to handover ownership of the website to people who he trust to preserve 4chan and it's legacy, it will last another 6 years or longer.

If not someone will create another *chan much bigger than 4chan as a legacy.

    >Kids would be growing up being sick shits and fapping to CP.

    That will not happen.

Considering the content, I wouldn't be surprisedbif the CIA made a chan site after te downfall of this one, from which they tracked pedos and political dissenters.

No, the mainstream media still thinks 4chan==/b/. To this day the mainstream press still has that focus because /b/ is the most mainstream of all the imageboards in 4chan.

    >However, one must take into consideration that users' opinions on this board are more a collective due to the anonymity aspect and that character judgement can't be very well derived due to this fact.

That is true, each imageboard on the website can be considered as a hivemind and collective. Thus each has it's own culture.

I'm 24 and already a result of growing up with the Internet. In my day, we just used Ogrish, stileproject, rotten.com to get a dose of "sick shit." You get (hopefully) over it as you age and the novelty of non PC speech and ugly body parts wears off. No dramatic Ed Gein tendencies, you just lose patience with 17 year olds that are going through their own anti-social phase and still think it's hilarious and edgy to post gay dead nigger dicks ramming into the twin towers, or whatever. At least, that's my experience. So in the future their will probably be just a lot of complaining about newfags.

Don't know what I'm still doing on this stupid site.

    >Kids would be growing up being sick shits and fapping to CP.

Most people on 4chan are disgusted by CP, it's posted mostly as shock images and trolling material by some sick shits. The kids at /b/ are only repeating memes about CP to fit in.

    20 years from now?

Either non-existent, and replaced by a larger legacy site or massive and totally different.

Caters to certain niches. It's not perfect, but it's helluva lot more convenient than having to sign into a forum, and so on.

I don't think the site will be taken down (unless we get internet regulation anyway) or people will wind up fucked up because of it. This site only continues to grow in popularity, I'm sure sooner or later there's going to be 1 out of 3 people who are a 4chan faggot.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/10(Tue)21:26 No.211048
I'm actually hoping for the world to end in 2012 or 4chan gets shut down within 4 years.

This place needs to be nuked, honestly. All the new kids are fucking terrible.

    4chan ONLY GETS WORSE. ONLY

Should kill it before it destroys the internet in unfunny bullshit.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/10(Tue)21:30 No.211082
The danger is that Moot's publicity drive will grab more negative attention than he might have anticipated. The argument for 4chan's existence is that anonymity creates valuable communities that garner honesty and mutual aid, but the counter-argument - that it also creates an arena for incredibly undesirable content to be shared and a consciously immoral subculture to develop - will be much more effective in any real life debate on the subject. I'm not saying I agree with the over-the-top moralfags IRL, but it's easier to defend shit like this online because there aren't so many hysterical '"think of the children" types.

The only bad thing about this site is /b/. Of course other boards are almost just as bad, but I don't mind 24/7 Avatar threads on /tv/. "post your picture" "doubles", etc on /b/ just make me rage hard though.

That is the only bad thing about the site. But in it's defense, I rather have /b/ exist to maximize free speech in this country.
