Here is the problem with Comedy Central "joke news":

They get to avoid ANY criticism by merely playing the "fake news" card and having their political views fall under the umbrella of "artistic expression" opposed to standing or falling on its OWN merits. You know how delusional and paranoid liberals like to talk about how FOX news is "fixed news omg brainwashing because we disagree!!!", well, The Daily Show is the personification of that grand exaggeration; except they invoke some bullshit double standard and criticize everyone around them.

I don't like how entertainment and journalism has been mixing, a network like "HLN" is fine, because it is entertainment NEWS, I just hate shit like MSNBC which masquerade around as if they are legitimate news operation. But once again, The Daily Show shouldn't be exempt from being criticized and called out on its bullshit.

You don't really get news from Stewart and Colbert, since they largely just use clips from the other networks.

What you do get is a picture of how unbelievably bullshit the coverage on those networks is, how politicians and pundits are allowed just to lie brazenly without anyone ever calling on them, and how each just pander to their target demographic.

And that's probably why they're the most important people in news right now.

Basically, again, 95% of what they do is just take clips of politicians and pundits lying about their record, positions, and past statements, and then just play clips that demonstrate how they're full of shit. It's what REAL journalists should do, but don't, ever. Politicians and pundits go on TV news to spout bullshit talking points, safe and secure in the knowledge that they will never, ever be called on it. Ever. It's not that Colbert and Stewart are really any good, it's just they do a halfassed job of actually being journalists, and nobody else does.

The way Stewart savaged Jim Cramer for not only being wrong about everything but also borderline criminal should be standard practice. After the meltdown in 2008, for example, every economist on a TV show afterward, before they got to jerk off in our faces on the air over what needs to be done now that we're in this big crisis, should've been asked, in a non-confrontational way: "This disaster caught you completely by surprise/you were telling us everything's great and fine. Please explain to our viewers why any of them should listen to a single word you have to say."

The only person who ever did was Jon fucking Stewart. Like I say, their one service is to show us how unspeakably awful the 'news' networks are at their jobs. And it's funny.
