Common misconception. Liberals aren't all "no war". Most of them supported the war in Afghanistan but never supported the war in Iraq. They wanted Bin Laden and the Taliban but felt it was needless and a waste of American lives to go to Iraq, but reality ties their hands to gradually withdrawal.
Conservatives, spinning a stereotype as political opponents are apt to due are all "hurr durr damn hippies hate our troops and want us to lose, i bet they're all pacifists who want the turrists to win".

Then there's the whole bullshit rumors about soldiers being spit on when they came from Vietnam and how liberals were against Vietnam out of pacifism only. No. In fact, the Gulf of Tonkin was a false pretext for war in the first place. You think conservatives would at least point out that LBJ started an unjust war and go "look at the dems bitching".

    >LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose
government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

Libertarianism is nice, but it does still have a number of issues to work out. It's another one of the, perhaps unfortunately, long list of political systems which has never 'really existed'. How do you work out something such as smoking in public? Do you infringe on the smoker's maximum liberty or the other person's health in a public place?
    >> Anonymous 02/21/10(Sun)00:03 No.190506
    >>190433

Libertarianism has been bastardized by morons. Most people these days who identify themselves as libertarians are far, far, far from socially liberal. The ideology has been taken over by the far retard right.
    >> Anonymous 02/21/10(Sun)00:05 No.190526
A libertarian would generally be against gun control, against all drug prohibition, against any sort of government mandated distinction between races (i.e. state affirmative action, prohibitions of discriminatory hiring/serving practices, etc), against any sort of government mandated distinction between sexes (same examples apply), against military intervention when we haven't been attacked (and against the draft, for cutting defence spending, etc), and against censorship (either as a response to things such as "obscenity" or things such as "hate speech").

These are all (pretty much) social issues, and so one who maintains all of these opinions without wanting to commit themselves to traditionally libertarian economic ideas could call themselves a "social libertarian".
    >> Anonymous of College Park,MD 02/21/10(Sun)00:06 No.190530
