libertarian would generally be against gun control, against all drug
prohibition, against any sort of government mandated distinction between
races (i.e. state affirmative action, prohibitions of discriminatory
hiring/serving practices, etc), against any sort of government mandated
distinction between sexes (same examples apply), against military
intervention when we haven't been attacked (and against the draft, for
cutting defence spending, etc), and against censorship (either as a
response to things such as "obscenity" or things such as "hate speech").
These
are all (pretty much) social issues, and so one who maintains all of
these opinions without wanting to commit themselves to traditionally
libertarian economic ideas could call themselves a "social libertarian". |
