20 KB Frustration and Despair as Job Search Drags On Ned the Newshound !XBW.lrXjxw 07/18/10(Sun)12:01 No.1736530
In her well-thumbed, leather-bound Bible, Terri Sadler recently highlighted in bright pink a passage in the Gospel of Matthew.

In it, Jesus urges his followers not to “worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

But Ms. Sadler’s tightening throat and halting breath when she tries to read the words aloud make it clear that she is having trouble mustering enough faith to follow them.

Ms. Sadler, who lost her job at an automotive parts plant in October 2008, learned last month that her unemployment insurance had been cut off. She is one of an estimated 2.1 million Americans whose benefits have expired and who are waiting for an end to an impasse that has lasted months in the Senate over extending the payments once more to the long-term unemployed.

In reality, it's not that hard to find a job. It's just that you'd pretty much be on minimum wage/part time or move to another state. The point is to have a job(no matter how shitty it is) and ride it out until a job you want opens up.

Moving to another state is the difficult part, you have other problems in moving to another state. The person has to find housing that is cheap enough but not in a high-crime area, the person needs enough resources to even move to a state.

If a low-income person is about to lose his or her car, the person will have a lot of difficulty even getting a job as much of them require you to have reliable transportation and such transportation often requires a car. It's a end result of America's dependence on automobiles instead of a balanced transportation system.

99 weeks unemployment, WTF? She could have spent two years in a community college and got a degree in a field where there are jobs, like dental hygenist, nurses aid or paralegal.

Why do something useful when you can bitch about not getting perpetual handouts.

BTW, Obama lent GM $50 billion so they wouldn't go bankrupt. Six weeks later GM gave $37 billion to the union pension fund and declared bankruptcy anyway. Maybe she should vote for someone who will do something to encourage businesses instead of handing out money to unions and putting moratoriums on functioning businesses.

And some people do stay on unemployment because the jobs they may get may pay less than unemployment checks.

A job that is minimum wage only yields 300 dollars a week, and that's before taxes. Besides, even if they want a minimum wage yob, the person has to compete with other people, not to mention in some areas, you have to speak Spanish to even get the job.

Eliminating illegal immigration will not solve the problem either as it will cause other problems as well.

That is something we can agree on. The person featured in the article could have saved at least ten percent of her earnings. She used to earn a wage of 14.65 dollars a hour. She should have saved a total of about 2810 dollars a year. The article did not said how many years she has been on that job. But seriously 2810 dollars a year of savings, anyone can live off of that for a while.

if people have no money they cannot spend money. this is why we have unemployment so people can pay their bills. if that stops completely then alot of businesses will fail because they have no income ( no.1 reason why most resturants have value meals). this lagging on the part of congress to see simple economics is very scary. i understand that they don't want a deficit but, when the government has the ability to write a simple check to stop economic disaster they play politics while the rest of us suffer. i'm also sick of hearing about flip burgers or pick up trash to make money. i've tried to find those jobs. their aren't any!

The US government can actually end this recession in the most obvious way. But if they actually do so, then the McCarthyists would accuse the government of socialism. The fear of socialism is that restricts the US government of actually taking any real action to end the recession.

As for those people suggesting to flip burgers and pickup trash, I bet they still have their jobs and they never experienced being unemployed. How did they got their jobs so easy?

Wipe old people's asses, haul trash, flip burgers, dig ditches, go to community college and become a self-employed plumber.
you have to be certified to wipe old people's asses and then it doesn't pay much. Good luck getting that certification.
Hauling trash is actually a great job. It pays well and has benefits. Waste disposal people aren't hiring because people already have those jobs and are too smart to leave them.
Flipping burgers? Have you tried to apply to McDonalds? They're either not hiring or you're 'over qualified'. Besides, living on minimum wage won't pay for health insurance, rent/mortgage, or even an electricity bill.
Community college has a two year waiting list in most places because people already have had that idea. You're also asking unemployed people with no income to stop looking for work, go to school and invest in starting their own business.
You're a complete fucking moron and you underestimate that all these millions and millions of unemployed people have already tried that.
This isn't like the great depression. You can tell someone then to go dig a ditch because the government was actually creating jobs where ditches needed digging. Now we don't have that luxury.

actually Americans never liked to work hard ever in their whole history. You imported slaves and when you couldn't do that you all started using machines and immigrants (both legal and illegal). In fact your entire country is built on immigrant stock that hated work and wanted to "get rich quick". In fact that's America's whole problem, everyone thinks they are going to get rich instead of living a comfortable and happy life within their means. That very mentality is destroying your whole nation. Good fucking luck letting mexicans pick your crops and the Chinese make your auto parts while you think you're going to make a living on the stock market and interest on old money.
