207 KB McDonnell wants to show Virginia the way out of liquor business Ned the Newshound !XBW.lrXjxw 07/17/10(Sat)20:58 No.1730160
For months, aides to Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell have been meeting behind closed doors with alcohol retailers and wholesalers, public safety officials and faith-based groups to come up with a way to fulfill one of the governor's most notable campaign promises: privatizing the state's liquor stores.

The consequences of what they come up with are potentially enormous and would amount to one of the most noticeable changes in the relationship between Virginians and their government in years, if not decades.

For the drinking-age public, a privatized system could mean many more liquor stores, a much wider variety of libations and lower prices. Like beer and wine, liquor could be sold in grocery stores, big-box stores such as Wal-Mart or anywhere else a licensed dealer chooses to locate.

For the state's ailing transportation network, it would mean a jolt of fresh cash that McDonnell (R) urgently needs as part of his plan to fix roads. Two of McDonnell's other primary sources of new money for transportation -- drilling offshore and tolling interstate highways -- are highly unlikely to generate any money anytime soon.

    Virginian here.

Let me clear this up for all of you retarded children that have never traveled more than 20 miles from your suburban West coast white liberal homes.

    1. All manner of alcohol is available in Virginia. No, we do not drink "special" 3% alcohol beer. Pic related.

    2. You can buy beer and wine in grocery stores, Wal-marts, 7-11's, etc. This is unlike some of the Leftist states where alcohol is more strictly controlled (Maryland for example).

    3. All "hard liquor" is sold in ABC stores.

    4. As a Virginia resident I can honestly say that it means nothing to me where the liquor is sold. If anything, I prefer the ABC store method because it keeps the liquor stores clean, well run, and with carefully chosen locations (away from schools, away from residential areas, in shopping centers mostly).

    Sic Semper Tyrannis.

In VA you can buy beer and liquor at grocery store but distilled must be bought at state owned stores. This will change it so anyone can sell it. I know in Florida distilled liquors must be in its own room. My local walmert has a liquor store but you go into the middle entrance to get to it.

If the Virginian Government change the laws to allow private business into alcohol selling business, would you support it if they adhere to same standards as the government run ABC stores (Keep them away from schools and residential areas)?

I don't mind one being a mile away at the shopping center next to the grocery store though.
