owner here. I mostly sub-contract to my employees, or I pay then via
"general labour" (Cash in hand). Raise the minimum wage all you want, I
dont care. I mostly escape having to worry about such things due to the
nature of how I pay people, and I start inexperienced people out at
$15/hr anyways if they dont/wont sub. People WITH experience make $20.50
to start, or more. Although experienced people generally recognize that
Subbbing will make them far more money.
I have some advice
for young workers who are inexperienced and perhaps live in an area
where Illegal immigrants depress wages and oportunities for entry-level
positions, make your citizenship work for you, more specifically, make
your life of living in your country and speaking the language work for
you. Get entry level sales positions. Immigrants, legal or otherwise can
*not* compete with you outside of their own cutural bubbles. I know
this sounds harsh but its the cold hard truth; your accent, (or rather
percieved lack of accent as far as your potential domestic customers are
concerned) is worth money. Cash it in. |
