The recovery out of recessions has gotten progressively slower over the last three recessions. So before we go around pointing fingers, I think we should try to see what is the problem.

I tend to think its because of the ease at which globalization occurs these days. It is much easier to fire someone due to necessity and hire somewhere else than fire for no apparent reason AND hire someone new. I think recoveries will only be faster if globalization uns its full course in about, say, 50 years I would estimate. Or, when the Singularity arrives. Whichever comes first.

Stop the trolling, please. This board is slowly turning into shite.

pretty much true for any humanities courses, but even technical degrees like engineering are having a tough time if you don't come from a top school.

I and all my engineering friends don't have jobs, with the exception of part time handyman job that has nothing to do with my degree. That's the biggest part of the scam. The majority of college degrees are considered "garbage" degrees, and the institution that offers them does nothing to warn anyone. Every factor involved in picking a proper degree is based on anecdote and hearsay.

Imagine going to a car store where all of the cars cost the same price, but 98% of them are defective. However, nobody tells you that the cars are defective, and the car salesman assures you that the car you buy will work perfectly. Third-party advertisements for the car confirm what he says. When you drive down the street and your engine explodes, you go back to the dealership and the only response you get is "LOL SORRY YOU CHOSE THE WRONG ONE! THANKS FOR THE MONEY THOUGH!".

That's how college in America is. How is that situation not a scam, and why is there no merit in complaining about it being broken? It's not a matter of complaining about shit not being handed to people, but about people being intentionally lured into spending massive amounts of money on something that is completely faulty.

It is pretty much common knowledge what the "money" degrees are, and the people that choose otherwise do so with full knowledge of this fact.

Look, it's not that I am unsympathetic, but before hocking your soul to the tune of 40 large, it might be a good idea to access your ability to pay it back. What you are describing isn't much different from the housing bubble, with too many people with stars in their eyes thinking how they are going to be millionaires for a day instead of common sense kicking them in their ass with "I work as a clerk. How the fuck am I going to afford this?"

And if you want to call bullshit on the system, can't say I disagree, but this is where you are at now. Better make it work.

I helped put myself through college by stealing from Wal-Mart for almost everything that I was able to hide in my pockets. Most employees at Wal-Mart hate their job, and $7.50 an hour isn't enough to make them give two shits about the company getting ripped off. The only people that care are managers, and only because they get penalized for stolen merchandise. However, they will almost always gladly turn a blind eye if you personally pay them. And that's only if you get caught. I had to pay off the manager at Wal-Mart for $100 after I got caught shoplifting, but that was a small price to pay considering the hundreds of dollars worth of stolen merchandise that I took from the store.

Eddie Murphy's name can single handedly get millions into the theaters. He is the most essential ingredient to the success of his movies. He could go to a comedy club, completely by himself with no support, and still make millions because people are willing to pay that much to watch him make jokes. The Shrek movie singlehandedly made Dreamworks an american icon and earned a domestic gross of $267,665,011. The movie would not have been such a success without the donkey character. Also like 80% of the lines in Beverly Hills Cop were ad libbed by Murphy, he carried every major movie he starred in.

    >> How do europeans get jobs? What's the Job market like in France, England, Denmark, etc?

3 years ago, I left America to find work in Europe and have no plans to come back. The market here is just as bad as in the USA, except that if you have citizenship you qualify for more government support if you can't find a job.

as a student at a state uni, education is not about learning or gaining knowledge, sure we do learn things but its really just pandering to professors and their test material. with only so many hours per wweek in class and with so much other extracurriculars stuff nowadays that is almost required to build an in demand resume, actually learning gets left behind, especially if you want to have a life and interest beyond the classroom

thinking is also something i feel is left behind, who has the time to read and question the things we are told if we are spending 15 hrs in class, 20hrs outside of class like they say you should, and 20 hrs a week in a part time job?

i think the true flaw like many have pointed out iis that college es portrayed and almost forced upon HS grads as teh next step to successs , when it endebts them and takes up youth while dangling potential increases in salary. i have not reached that step yet but it seems as tho these high salaried jobs are only as staff and administrative positions working under a corporate hierarcchy that keeps you there for the longest time to move up and from 9-5 every week.

My biggest qualm would be that so much work and sacrifice of time is required to maintain a picture perfect "life" while people miss the fact that we only have one life to live.
