one has mentioned that in Washington State all security guards/officers
are required to have preassignment training and an exam before getting
licensed. Following are some of the topics: Basic Role of the Security
Guard, Washington State Licensing Laws, Observation, Proper Actions,
Reactions, Ethics and Diversity, Citizen Arrest; Authority to Detain,
Authority to Search or Seize Private Property, Use of Force and so
on…the full list can be found in WAC 308-18-30. Basically, the Use of
Force is allowed as long as it is reasonable and necessary to protect
another person and/or yourself. The Olympic Security Officers should be
fired for two reasons: 1) The officers had the authority to act by
Washington State law and the training they should have received. 2) They
should have at least acted out compassion for the victim. If not fired,
two of them should be reprimanded, suspended and required to go through
all training again. The third should be fired for walking away. |
