43 KB Caught on Tape: Security Guards Stand By as Girl Brutally Attacked Anonymous 02/10/10(Wed)18:49 No.123980
    http://www.breitbart.tv/caught-on-tape-seattle-security-guards-stand-by-as-teen-girl-brutally-attack
    ed/

AP: Three security guards watched a group of teens punch, kick and rob a 15-year-old girl in the downtown Seattle Metro bus tunnel without intervening. Security video shows the guards call for help on their radios, but they don't go to the aid of the girl even as she is being kicked in the head. A dispute involving a group of 10 teens apparently started inside a department store the evening of Jan. 28 and moved to the bus tunnel at Westlake Station, where the girl was attacked.

KING-TV reports: The guards are not trained police officers or Metro Transit employees. They're contract workers from Olympic Security Services out of Tukwila. According to their contract, the guards are to "observe and report" problems, not to get involved. Metro Transit General Manager Kevin Desmond says that policy is now out of date.

I'd have done the same thing.
I'm not gonna get sued and lose my job for helping a stupid girl.
Change the system and I'll change myself. Not backwards.

I'm pretty sure they were thinking "I don't want to fight with 10 teenagers, and I don't want to get sued". If they were armed with tasers/guns, and had full authority to use force to protect people, then they'd probably have done a lot more.

But they could have at least said something.

Ok, let me tell you right now, as a security guard.

THAT IS THE RECOMMENDED COURSE OF ACTION.

In the California (different state, I know) Security Guard licensing training booklet, it recommends that you never intervene in a situation, and instead call for help.

I had a friend, who used to be a co-worker, who got sued and fired, because he called 911 when a woman drove her car into a ditch without asking her first. Why? She had meth in the trunk, and the cops found it.

Seriously, being a security guard is being constantly at risk of losing your job, because you ALWAYS get in trouble for the most inane shit.

What the fuck? He got SUED for THAT? If the justice system let him get sued because she went to jail for having drugs, then drugs shouldn't be illegal in the first place. It's like someone getting sued because they saw a murder take place and the murdered got arrested.

As a fellow security guard, I'd like to see if you have the same experience I have.

Does everyone blame you for everything that goes wrong?

Cause it seems to me like, just because they hired you to wear a fancy uniform and get paid just above minimum wage, they think their lives should be perfect forever.

"The roof collapsed, why didn't you know it was weak!?!"

Motherfucker, I barely graduated high school. Do I look like a fucking architectural engineer?

In the 1800's to early 1930's 40's Industrial magnates would often contract "security guards" to keep factory workers in line. This resulted in multiple instances where private security armies would gun down opposing workers to end strikes. Thus was instated the Pinkerton act (named after the most notorious private security company) the pinkerton act severely limited the abilities of private security officers and instilled a long lasting fear in government officials that a private entity might use such security firms to keep the workers in line.

TLDR- Security guards and people suffer from the acts of crazy ass robber barons from the industrial age.

    Observe and Report.

Essentially, you're paid to be a witness. There are higher paid security guards that are not "hands off" guards, but it requires more background checks, different licensing, and more training.

Good Samaritan laws are laws or acts protecting from liability those who choose to aid others who are injured or ill. They are intended to reduce bystanders' hesitation to assist, for fear of being sued or prosecuted for unintentional injury or wrongful death. In Canada, a good Samaritan doctrine is a legal principle that prevents a rescuer who has voluntarily helped a victim in distress from being successfully sued for 'wrongdoing'. Its purpose is to keep people from being reluctant to help a stranger in need for fear of legal repercussions if they were to make some mistake in treatment.[1] Good Samaritan laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, as will their interactions with various other legal principles, such as consent, parental rights and the right to refuse treatment. Such laws generally do not apply to medical professionals' or career emergency responders' on-the-job conduct, but some extend protection to professional rescuers when they are acting in a volunteer capacity.
The principles contained in good Samaritan laws more typically operate in countries in which the foundation of the legal system is English Common Law, such as Australia[2]. In many countries that use civil law as the foundation for their legal systems, the same legal effect is more typically achieved using a principle of duty to rescue.
Good Samaritan laws take their name from a parable told by Jesus commonly referred to as the Parable of the Good Samaritan which is contained in Luke 10:25-37. It recounts the aid given by one traveler (from the area known as Samaria) to another traveler of a different religious and ethnic background who had been beaten and robbed by bandits.[3]

No one has mentioned that in Washington State all security guards/officers are required to have preassignment training and an exam before getting licensed. Following are some of the topics: Basic Role of the Security Guard, Washington State Licensing Laws, Observation, Proper Actions, Reactions, Ethics and Diversity, Citizen Arrest; Authority to Detain, Authority to Search or Seize Private Property, Use of Force and so on…the full list can be found in WAC 308-18-30. Basically, the Use of Force is allowed as long as it is reasonable and necessary to protect another person and/or yourself. The Olympic Security Officers should be fired for two reasons: 1) The officers had the authority to act by Washington State law and the training they should have received. 2) They should have at least acted out compassion for the victim. If not fired, two of them should be reprimanded, suspended and required to go through all training again. The third should be fired for walking away.
